The 2023 MLB season is in full swing, and we have put together a list of our MLB power rankings today based on the odds at BetMGM. Why are we tying our MLB power rankings to the betting odds? Let’s dive into it.

In other power ranking formats, analysts tend to overreact to a small sample size based on a series or two. These power rankings strive to be more objective while looking at each team’s odds to reach the World Series.

With that, let’s take a look at the Props.com MLB Power rankings today.

Which Teams Have Risen The Most?

The Pittsburgh Pirates are up from No. 24 last week to No. 17. They started the season at No. 29 and currently lead the NL Central. To top it off, they are also a member of the 20-win club along with the Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves. You could argue their success has been earned solely on the base paths. They lead the majors in stolen bases and are taking full advantage of the faster pace of play and larger bases.

The Minnesota Twins started at No. 19, and now they have been at No. 10 for the second straight week. This has to do with the White Sox falling down in the AL Central and the Twins rising up to essentially take their spot as a contender from that division with a 17-14 record. Sonny Gray has stepped up to seemingly solve the Twins’ starting pitching questions. Seven big flies from Byron Buxton have also been exactly what the offense has needed to continue the push forward at the top of their division.

Which Teams Have Fallen The Most?

The Chicago White Sox started the season at No. 9. Now they are No. 21, which is down one spot from last week. Now that shortstop Tim Anderson is back in the lineup, this ranking could improve but it is safe to say the absence of their all-star shortstop stung. It was very evident as the White Sox are still trying to bounce back from their recent 10-game losing streak.

The Philadelphia Phillies started the season at No. 7, and now they are at No. 13 for the second straight week. They too are falling victim to a shortstop problem as Trea Turner is slumping with just a .260 avg. with only eight extra-base hits and 32 strikeouts in his last 130 plate appearances. The pitching is also falling incredibly short and was on full display as they gave up double-digit run totals in their last three games against the Dodgers. However, with Bryce Harper back in the lineup, perhaps the Phillies will turn things around.
