Jalen Ramsey was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Minkah Fitzpatrick today - Monday June 30, 2025.

Did you wake up on Monday and expect a Jalen Ramsey trade? The first NFL blockbuster move of the summer saw the Pittsburgh Steelers acquire the 7x Pro Bowl defender from the Miami Dolphins.

There has been smoke throughout the offseason regarding a few of Miami’s star players, including Ramsey and wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Jalen Ramsey Trade: Steelers Acquire ex-Miami Star

Ramsey, who turns 31 in October, was drafted 5th overall by the Jaguars in 2016 before moving on to play for Sean McVay and the Rams from 2019-2022. Ramsey spent just two seasons with the Dolphins, recording a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 and collecting five total interceptions across 27 games played during his Miami tenure.

Does today’s trade of Ramsey shake up the Steelers’ odds to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl LIX? After all, Aaron Rodgers did finally sign with the Steelers earlier this month after what felt like a decade-long game of cat and mouse.

It feels like Pittsburgh is going “all-in,” so it shouldn’t be any surprise if they are in the thick of the wide receiver market sooner rather than later.

Trade Update: Reports are indicating that Pittsburgh will also receive breakout TE Jonnu Smith and a 2027 7th-round pick, while Miami will get a 2027 5th-round pick in return.

Smith made it public that he wants a new contract, which means the Steelers might have to spend a little money to make him happy. Regardless, Aaron Rodgers has another new weapon in Pittsburgh, and Smith is reunited with his former tight-end coach, Arthur Smith, who calls plays for the Steelers. Next up: Allen Lazard? (sarcasm…)

Minkah Fitzpatrick Traded To Dolphins

It’s a bit of a headscratcher, but Minkah Fitzpatrick is heading back to South Beach, as the Steelers shipped him off to trade for Jalen Ramsey on Monday.

Fitzpatrick played his first 1.5 seasons with Miami before the Steelers acquired him during the middle of the 2019 season. Fitzpatrick has been dynamite for Pittsburgh, earning Pro Bowl honors in four of his last five seasons.

Jalen Ramsey Contract

Ramsey will be under contract for Pittsburgh until 2029. According to Spotrac, “Jalen Ramsey signed a 3-year, $72,300,000 contract with the Miami Dolphins, including $24,235,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $24,100,000. In 2025, Ramsey will earn a base salary of $2,755,000, a signing bonus of $18,980,000, and a workout bonus of $100,000, while carrying a cap hit of $7,416,000 and a dead cap value of $21,735,000.”

Minkah Fitzpatrick Contract

According to Spotrac, Fitzpatrick is under contract until 2027 when he will become an unrestricted free agent. He’s set to make $15.5M this year and $17.5M next season.
