Where’s the top Underdog NBA value for today’s slate?
Bradley Beal Higher Than 15.5 Points (1.0x)
Beal is often the scapegoat for the Suns, who have had a disastrous season. They’re currently on the outside of the Western Conference playoff picture, trailing the Mavericks by 1.5 games for the No. 10 spot in the standings. They still have some time to make up the difference, but missing the Play-In Tournament would be inexcusable for a team with as much offensive firepower as the Suns.
Beal is the team’s clear No. 3 option behind Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, but he has an elite pedigree as a scorer. He’s had two years where he’s averaged more than 30 points per game, including one where he led the league in scoring. Beal hasn’t looked like the same player in Phoenix, but he’s still averaged 17.6 points per game this season.
Beal has also seen an uptick in scoring recently. He’s had at least 18 points in nine of his past 12 outings, and two of the exceptions were games where he played reduced minutes. That was the case in his last contest. He saw just 26.4 minutes against the Kings, with the team choosing instead to ride the hot hand of Tyus Jones off the bench.
Beal could pick up a few additional minutes vs. the Lakers, and if he does, getting to 16 points shouldn’t be a huge hurdle. The Lakers have been an excellent defensive team for most of the year, but they’re not nearly as intimidating without LeBron James. They’re merely 19th in defensive efficiency over their past five outings, so this number feels a bit too low.

Kawhi Leonard Higher Than 29.5 Points (3.2x)
Leonard has not had the same impact this season as he did last year, but the Clippers have done a good job of preserving him for the playoffs. He’s played limited minutes for most of the season – and have limited him to just 24 games played – but his involvement has ramped up recently. He’s averaged 37.7 minutes over his past seven outings, and he’s had at least 20 field goal attempts in back-to-back games.
Leonard only has one game with at least 30 points this season, but he’s come close on a few other occasions. Perhaps he can cross that threshold vs. the Hornets, who are 21st in defensive efficiency over their past 10 games. Leonard’s shooting efficiency has improved down the stretch, so I expect him to close the season strong.
