The event starts the morning of Thursday, August 11 — so read up and get those picks in.

In addition to this betting preview, Anderson will release an episode late Friday night in which he will offer his favorite wagering opportunities heading into the weekend, so be sure to subscribe to Props Golf on Youtube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.

With that, here are Dubbs’ top FedEx St. Jude Championship picks and best bets across the golf betting markets.

Odds updated as of 10 a.m. ET on August 9.

FedEx St. Jude Championship Picks

The FedEx St. Jude Championship will be played at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Tony Finau won this event in 2021 and has 22-1 odds to win this event again. Other recent winners of this tournament include Dustin Johnson (2020), Patrick Reed (2019), and Bryson DeChambeau (2018).

As Dubbs noted on the podcast, TPC Southwind is a longer course where distance is key. The players will need to focus on good iron play to avoid the water hazards and thick rough speckled throughout this course. With that in mind, strokes gained around the green, strokes gained on approach, and strokes gained off the tee are the most important metrics to monitor heading into this event.

The following are abbreviated, edited excerpts of Anderson’s analysis from his latest episode of Props Golf, which he hosts twice weekly. For full analysis, you can view the full episode at the bottom of this article.

Rory McIlroy Outright Winner (+1000)

Best odds available: +1000 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: This weekend, you have to reward players who can drive the ball with absolute precision. Rory McIlroy is that guy. Let’s take a look at some of his stats to see why he is favored so heavily:

  • 3rd in strokes gained off the tee
  • 15th in strokes gained on approach
  • 49th in strokes gained around the green

Just to put a cherry on top, McIlroy is also 7th in strokes gained putting while sitting third overall in the world rankings. It is almost impossible to not have a slice of him this weekend with +1000 odds at DraftKings Sportsbook.

John Rahm Outright Winner (+2200)

Best odds available: +2200 at BetMGM Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: When you talk about the best drivers on the PGA Tour, Jon Rahm could be your top choice. Distance combined with accuracy is a recipe for success this weekend, and the “Spanish bull” has both of those. With one win at the Mexico Open under his belt, Rahm’s top skills could very well be on display here at TPC Southwind.

Rahm ranks first in strokes gained off the tee and 23rd in strokes gained on approach. Since the short game will not be as much of a factor on this longer course, count on this heavy hitter to be in contention for the win.

Tony Finau Top 20 Finish (+117)

Best odds available: +117 at BetRivers Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: It is impossible not to at least give some respect to last year’s winner of this event. Finau is your classic streaky player that can catch fire or be ice cold. Count on the latter this weekend as he knows the course well and definitely wants to defend his title.

Finau is also very conveniently known for his driving, so if he is in good form, count on this plus money peach to be a lock inside the top 20.
