Dubbs Anderson, former PGA Tour caddy and host of the Props Golf podcast, easily cashed his top bet (Rory McIlroy Top 20 finish) for last week’s PGA Championship. Now he’s back with more best bets, props and sleeper picks for the Charles Schwab Challenge, which starts Thursday.

In addition to this betting preview, Dubbs will release an episode Friday with his PGA best bets and situations heading into the weekend.

With that, let’s check out Dubbs’ top Charles Schwab Challenge picks and best bets across the golf betting markets.

Odds updated as of 11:55 a.m. ET on May 24.

Charles Schwab Challenge Picks

This event will be played at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Jason Kokrak, last year’s champion, is back in the mix, looking at +3500 odds to defend his title. Daniel Berger won the event in 2020, and Kevin Na claimed top honors in 2019. Both of them also have +3500 odds to win this time around.

Dubbs mentioned that accuracy off the tee will be important when playing at Colonial. Iron play will be imperative as well, so keep an eye out for golfers who excel in the strokes gained on approach metric. In general, “small ball specialists” tend to perform well on this course.

The following are edited excerpts of Anderson’s analysis from the latest episode of Props Golf, which he hosts twice weekly.

Jordan Spieth Top 10 Finish (+145)

Best odds available: +145 at FanDuel Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: The Dallas native should have a solid tournament in his own backyard.

Speaking to that point, Spieth has never missed the cut at Colonial. He won at this site in 2016 and finished runner-up at the Charles Schwab Challenge last year. Don’t read into the fact that he finished T-34 at the PGA Championship last week; Spieth finds himself in an excellent bounce-back spot.

Spieth ranks 13th in shots gained on approach, which Dubbs referenced as an important metric for this course. That should carry him a long way toward cracking the top 10 in this event.

Even though Spieth was lackluster at the PGA Championship, we can’t ignore that he finished first (RBC Heritage) and second (AT&T Byron Nelson) in his two previous events. This is an excellent situation for the Texas native to regain that form.

You can find Spieth for a top-10 finish with +145 odds at FanDuel.

Viktor Hovland Outright Winner +2200

Best odds available: +2200 at BetMGM Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: Hovland has all the ingredients to push toward a win at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Hovland ranks 39th in driving accuracy percentage (65.14%) on the PGA Tour and is third in shots gained on approach.

The only drawback comes from Hovland’s short-game struggles. However, Dubbs believes this course will forgive those shortcomings with thicker rough, allowing Hovland to swing freely around the green.

Hovland has made eight cuts in a row coming into this event, including three top-10 finishes (twice in the top five) over that span. He’s ready to take a step forward and earn his first state-side win of the season.

Go ahead and grab Hovland at +2200 outright winner odds at BetMGM. That’s much better than +1900 at FanDuel and +2000 at DraftKings. Always shop for the best price!

Abraham Ancer Outright Winner (+4000)

Best odds available: +4000 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: Ancer finally got his breakthrough win at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational last August. Since then, the results have been erratic, especially in the first few months of 2022.

However, Ancer found his groove with a top-10 finish at the PGA Championship last week. Perhaps he’s returning to form? It helps that he’s returning to a course that has been very good to him in the past, as Ancer has made the cut in all four Charles Schwab Challenge appearances. That includes two top-15 finishes in the last two years.

The course certainly plays to his strengths, as Ancer ranks third in driving accuracy (70.45%). Put it all together, and this number seems too high for a guy of this pedigree.

You can find Ancer at +4000 on DraftKings, which is better than +3200 at FanDuel and +3300 at BetMGM.
