Starting Pitchers

  • Yankees: RHP Gerritt Cole (5-0, 2.22 ERA, 1.04 WHIP)

Cole was named the AL Pitcher of the Month for April with a sparkling 1.11 ERA before the calendar flipped to May. Since then, Cole hasn’t exactly lived up to those standards, allowing nine earned runs and 18 hits across 16 innings over his last three starts.

  • Blue Jays: RHP Chris Bassitt (5-2, 3.49 ERA, 1.08 WHIP)

Bassitt is coming off a whale of a performance, tossing a complete game shutout (allowed only two hits) last Friday against a tough Atlanta Braves lineup. Even better, Bassitt only needed 105 pitches to make it happen, so he didn’t overextend himself while notching the impressive shutout.

Blue Jays vs. Yankees Predictions

It seems that Bassitt has finally found his groove for Toronto. As mentioned earlier, he tossed a complete game shutout against the Braves last Friday. Prior to that, he posted seven scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The guy is definitely in the zone!

Looking on the other side, Cole has somewhat slipped over his last three starts after a fantastic first month of the season. However, two of those outings came against a red-hot Tampa Bay offense, where the Yankees’ ace gave up a combined 13 hits and seven earned runs across 10 innings.

Cole faced the Blue Jays once earlier this season (April 22), and he didn’t allow a run across 5.2 innings. That game ended with the Yankees winning 3-2, and a similar final score could happen on Wednesday. That’s especially true when looking at the caliber of both pitchers.

Expect runs to be at a premium in Toronto!
