The New York Yankees’ current nine-game winning streak has featured a little bit of everything: pitchers’ duels, slugfests, nailbiters and blowouts. It’s also featured a bunch of punching-bag opponents. All nine victories came against Cleveland, Baltimore and Kansas City (the first six at home). And the Bronx Bombers were at least a -170 favorite in every game, laying more than -190 in the last seven in a row.
Bookmakers have New York favored yet again on Monday, but this time only slightly. The reason? The team in the other dugout is legit. Yankees vs Blue Jays odds show New York as the slimmest of road favorites in the opener of a three-game series.
Thanks to their hot streak, the Yankees currently own baseball’s best record. They also have moved into first place in the AL East. But the Blue Jays, who have won nine of 12, are right on New York’s tail, just 1.5 games back.

About the Yankees
Hits & Misses: During its nine-game winning streak — which encompasses a trio of three-game sweeps over the Guardians, Orioles and Royals — New York has posted eight multi-run victories while outscoring the opposition 67-28. The Yankees have plated at least five runs in seven of their last eight contests. By comparison, they scored a total of 11 runs during their four-game home series against Toronto last month. RF Aaron Judge homered twice in Sunday’s 6-4 victory in Kansas City. Judge is tied for second in MLB with eight home runs, one behind league leader/teammate Anthony Rizzo. On the mound, New York has baseball’s second-lowest overall ERA (2.72) and fourth-lowest bullpen ERA (2.80). The Yankees also have MLB’s second-best run differential (+41), trailing only the Dodgers (+47).
Jordan Montgomery vs. Blue Jays: Montgomery had a shaky 2022 debut against Boston (three runs in 3.1 innings), but he’s been outstanding in three subsequent starts. The southpaw cumulatively limited the Orioles (twice) and Tigers to three runs, 10 hits and four walks while striking out 11 in 16.2 innings. However, New York only cashed in one of those strong outings, defeating Baltimore 5-2 at home Wednesday. Prior to that victory, the Yankees had lost four straight Montgomery starts and were 2-8 in his previous 10 trips to the hill (1-4 on the road). The 29-year-old from South Carolina is 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA in eight career appearances (seven starts) against Toronto.

About the Blue Jays
Hits & Misses: Toronto welcomed the Astros north of the border over the weekend and dropped Friday’s series opener 11-7, then rallied to take the series with narrow victories Saturday (2-1) and Sunday (3-2). The Blue Jays have started the season by winning six of seven series, the lone exception being the four-game split in New York in mid-April. Toronto heads into Monday on positive runs of 9-3 overall and 6-2 at home. That said, the offense has been a bit stagnant of late. Take away Friday’s seven-run outburst in the loss to Houston, and the Jays have produced seven runs in their last four games. Still, in addition to being tied with New York in home runs, Toronto ranks fifth in MLB in hits per game (8.32).
Stripling vs Yankees: Stripling yielded just one run on five hits in Wednesday’s home game against Boston but got a no-decision in his team’s 7-1 loss. He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter, boosting his K/BB ratio on the season to 12-1. The Blue Jays had won five consecutive games started by Stripling prior to Wednesday. Going back to last season, Stripling has given up just three earned runs in four home starts covering 20.1 innings (1.33 ERA). The 32-year-old right-hander is 0-4 with a 4.50 ERA in five career outings (two starts) against the Yanks. Both starts came in 2021, and Stripling allowed a combined six runs (five earned) on seven hits and four walks with 14 strikeouts in 10 innings. He lost 3-2 at home and 5-3 on the road.
