Padres vs. Dodgers Predictions
Clayton Kershaw has been remarkable to begin the season. The 35-year-old lefty holds a shiny 1.89 ERA after allowing only eight earned runs across 38 innings pitched this season. In his last start (Saturday, April 29), Kershaw allowed only two hits in seven shutout innings (nine strikeouts) against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Over his last three starts, Kershaw has given up only one earned run and eight hits across 20 innings pitched. That came against some quality offenses too in the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and Cardinals respectively.
Now he’ll face a dangerous Padres lineup that has scored six or more runs in four of their last five games.
Padres pitcher Yu Darvish is no slouch either, especially at home, where he held a 2.60 ERA last year. This will be his first meeting against the Dodgers in 2023, but Darvish looked good against them in 2022, allowing two or fewer earned runs in three of four starts. In fact, Darvish threw 6+ scoreless innings in two of those starts. Both were in Petco Park, where he’ll be pitching under the lights tonight.
Despite San Diego scoring plenty of runs lately, the Padres have gone under the total in six of their last eight games. This may seem like an obvious choice, but the under makes for a very strong play with a pair of reliable pitchers on the mound.
