Patrick Mahomes is at home in Arrowhead on Sunday Night Football against his budding rival, Josh Allen and the Bills. This matchup could really have a huge impact on the first seed and home-field advantage in the playoffs, even though it is just Week 5.
Mahomes Interception Trends
Mahomes has thrown an interception in five of his last seven games, and I do think that the close nature of these games has a lot to do with this. The Chiefs offense is electric, but the defense is just flat-out horrible right now. This means that Mahomes is still trying to make plays on every single play that he’s out there for, and this does catch up with him throughout the course of the game.
Chiefs Offense: Aggressive Playcalling
I don’t think there is anyone in the league with more raw confidence and a longer leash when it comes to making crazy plays, and those are often the ones that can go a bit haywire. Mahomes is the best freelancer in the game, but this requires all of his teammates to be on the same page, and it also means he isn’t scared to make mistakes.
Mahomes and the Chiefs have embraced this playstyle, thus allowing him to make a few more mistakes in-game than most young QBs would be comfortable making because they realize what it does for the team overall.
The Chiefs have also had some offensive line issues throughout last season and early this season, while we expect them to be fine lone term.
The Matchup At Buffalo
The Bills’ defense has been incredibly impressive this year, shutting out two of the four teams that they have played. Incompetent QBs or not, this is an incredible feat in the NFL, and this defense is very healthy and plays very fast.
I think that we should see Patrick Mahomes throw a pick or two in this game based on the pressure on him in the pocket and in the game to put up points with another elite offense and QB with a poor defense behind him.
