As you plan for your Week 5 NFL player prop bets, take a look at the Minnesota Vikings passing attack going against the Detroit Lions secondary.
Few matchups offer a larger disparity in talent than this NFC North contest, and there are props worth targeting.
The Matchup At A Glance
Minnesota ranks middle of the road in terms of their passing efficiency to start the 2021 season, but the Lions rank dead-last in pass defense through four weeks.
A softer matchup, you will not find.
Detroit is 32nd in the NFL in yards per pass attempt, at 9.8. That metric is my go-to when looking to quantify the quality of a team quickly. It strips away total yards, which is misleading, and instead focuses on how many yards offenses are getting against them.
The Lions made the Bears and rookie Justin Fields look like a legitimate offense, which after Week 3, seemed impossible.
Meanwhile, Kirk Cousins remains a steadying force for Minnesota despite a shaky Week 4, and few teams have the receiving duo talent to match Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen.
Take These NFL Player Prop Bets
The two Vikings receivers are where I’ll focus my attention this weekend, as both could conceivably be in for big games.
Justin Jefferson leads the offense in receptions and yards, with 26 for 338. Adam Thielen isn’t far behind, catching 24 balls, four of which have gone for touchdowns.
Jefferson has had back-to-back big yardage games, going for 118 and 84 the past two weeks. Thielen hasn’t had a big outing since Week 1’s 92 yards, so his line is likely to be much lower.
If you prefer value on a low line, the edge goes to Thielen. If you prefer recent trends, Jefferson is your guy.
No matter what receiver you choose, both seem poised for big games against this porous Detroit secondary.
Go ahead and confidently take the over on their NFL player prop bets, and enjoy Sunday’s action.
