Let’s dive into the analysis!
Monday Night Football Prop Bets: Week 1
Josh Shepardson runs through his favorite Monday Night Football player props for the Seahawks vs. Broncos:
Javonte Williams Over 58.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
Williams never completely pulled away from Gordon in his rookie campaign. Still, Williams averaged 53.1 rushing yards per game and 58.71 rushing yards per game in Denver’s seven wins. He was also a beast in a handful of Pro Football Focus’s (PFF) metrics. According to PFF, out of 50 backs with at least 100 rush attempts, Williams was second in missed tackles forced (63) and seventh in Yards After Contact Per Attempt (3.42 YCO/A). Gordon wasn’t a slouch in either category, but his 45 missed tackles forced and 3.12 YCO/A were worse than Williams’s marks.
Unfortunately, Hackett talked of taking a hot-hand approach to divvying up carries to the backfield.
Nathaniel Hackett on RB split with Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon:
"I've always been a true believer in you want to roll with the hot hand. One guy gets going, you want to be sure to keep feeding that person. But I think they're going to be great compliments to each other"
— Zac Stevens (@ZacStevensDNVR) September 9, 2022
Still, there might be enough meat on the bone for both of Denver’s backs to feast in a good game script. Additionally, Williams is an ascending second-year back the Broncos traded up in the second round to draft. Conversely, the Broncos didn’t prioritize retaining Gordon, waiting until the end of April to re-sign him to a one-year deal after Gordon tested free agency.
So, if Williams can carve out a slightly more prominent role this year, he’s a great bet to go over his yardage prop since, again, he averaged 58.71 rushing yards per game in wins in 2021.
Where to bet: Javonte Williams Over 58.5 Rush Yards | -115 at BetMGM
Jerry Jeudy Under 60.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
The second of these Monday Night Football prop bets paints more of a bearish scenario for a Denver skill player.
Jerry Jeudy hasn’t lived up to the lofty expectations that accompanied the Broncos picking him 15th in the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s averaged only 50.9 receiving yards per game. Jeudy has also eclipsed 60.5 receiving yards only 10 times in 26 games.
Obviously, Wilson is a massive upgrade from Drew Lock, Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien, and Teddy Bridgewater, the collection of quarterbacks Jeudy played with through his first two years. However, the lack of preseason reps between Wilson and Jeudy could result in rustiness and a lack of chemistry out of the gate.
Moreover, there has been a steady drumbeat that Courtland Sutton was Wilson’s favorite target through the offseason. Will there be enough ball to go around if Wilson isn’t sharp and the Broncos can impose their will on the ground?
Since I’m skeptical of Denver’s passing game clicking on all cylinders and Jeudy hasn’t generated the same buzz as Sutton, I’ll take the under for Jeudy’s receiving yards.
Where to bet: Jerry Jeudy Under 60.5 Receiving Yards | -115 at BetMGM
