NFL Week 5 is in progress, and with the first month-plus of the season in the books, Super Bowl odds are a work in progress. The Kansas City Chiefs relinquished the favorite’s mantle to the defending Super Bowl Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and there are plenty of worthy pursuers.
That includes the only unbeaten team, the surprising Arizona Cardinals, who’ve made a noteworthy charge up the Super Bowl betting board.

Moving On Up
Kyler Murray and Arizona were an offensive machine in the first four weeks, averaging a league-leading 35 points per game, 1.5 points better than Kansas City. The Cardinals dipped to fourth in Week 5 at 31.4 ppg, but the more important fact was a 17-10 home win over the 49ers to move to 5-0 SU (4-1 ATS)
Bettors and oddsmakers have certainly taken note.
“The most noteworthy climb up the board in the first few weeks of the season has been the Arizona Cardinals,” Korn said. “After coming into the season at +4,000 to win the Super Bowl, they are now all the way into +1,300. The most popular teams [bet on] to win the Super Bowl since the season started have been the Cardinals, Chargers, and Cowboys.”
(On a related note, Korn said Murray saw his MVP odds go from +1800 all the way to the +475 favorite after Week 4, though he’s now the +650 fourth choice.)
The Chargers (4-1) are also +1,300 after starting the season +3,000, while the Cowboys (3-1) opened the season +2,500 and are now +1,800.
Going The Wrong Way
When the season opened, Indianapolis and Minnesota were both thought to be intriguing medium shots by PointsBet USA oddsmakers. The Colts were at +3300 and the Vikings +4000. Now, both are on a similar slide.
“Two big disappointments so far this year,” Korn said. “The Colts came into the season with some promise and a new QB [Carson Wentz] at the helm. That being said, they started 1-3, and we have pushed their odds all the way out to +7,500.
“Similarly, the Vikings drifted out to +6,600 after a 1-3 start. To defend the Vikings, though, their schedule through four weeks has definitely not been easy.”
Indeed, in the first month, Minnesota faced Cincinnati (3-1), Arizona (4-0), Seattle (2-2, the Vikes’ lone win), and Cleveland (3-1). The Vikings then narrowly beat lowly Detroit in Week 5 to get to 2-3, and their odds adjusted slightly to +6,000.
Ticket Takers And (Maybe) Money Makers
PointsBet USA’s top three teams in Super Bowl ticket count are the Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Buccaneers. The Rams are the +900 fourth choice from +1,500 at the beginning of the season. The Bills, coming off an impressive Week 5 Sunday night win at Kansas City, moved from +1,200 to the +600 second choice. And the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers are now the +550 favorites.
The top three teams in money are the Rams, Bills, and Chiefs, who opened the season as the +500 favorite but dropped to third at +700 after the home loss to Buffalo.
“Among the teams atop the Super Bowl odds board, PointsBet will be rooting against the Bills and Rams, and rooting for the Bucs and Chiefs,” Korn said.
And there’s another team creating some concern, as well: the Cowboys, who as noted above have shortened from +2,500 to +1,800 since the season began.
“The book will need to keep a close eye on the Cowboys as the season progresses,” Korn said. “They really seem to be pulling away with the NFC East already.”
