The Rocket Mortgage Classic will be played at the Detroit Golf Club in Detroit, Michigan. Cam Davis won this event in 2021 and has 33-1 odds to win this event again. Other recent winners of this tournament include Bryson DeChambeau (2020) and Nate Lashley in the tournament’s inaugural year (2019).
As Dubbs noted on the podcast, the Detroit Golf Club is an old-school course with smaller fairways and very thick rough. The players will need distance while also keeping the ball in bounds. With that in mind, strokes gained around the green, strokes gained on approach, and strokes gained off the tee are the most important metrics to monitor heading into this event.

Cameron Young Outright Winner (+2000)

Dubbs’ Take: Young’s last finish was runner-up at the Open Championship and he has six top ten finishes on the season. The Wake Forest alum is still in his rookie season and seems to have what it takes to make an immediate on the PGA Tour. In addition, Young has one stat that stands out among all others this weekend: 2nd in strokes gained off the tee.
Dubbs needs to have a slice of this rookie with all the intangibles to take home his first win. The 20-1 odds at BetMGM Sportsbook are just too good to pass up.

Will Zalatoris Outright Winner (+1600)

Dubbs’ Take: It’s just a matter of time before Zalatoris converts his impressive skillset to a PGA Tour win. His key stats absolutely jump off the page as he is 1st in strokes gained on approach. You could argue this makes Zalatoris the best iron player in the field.
The last piece of the puzzle is just having a solid day driving the ball and playing just slightly better than his 66th in strokes gained around the green metric. That is what it will take for Zalatoris to notch his first outright win, which is within sight this weekend.
Troy Merritt Top 40 Finish (+110)
Best odds available: +110 at FanDuel Sportsbook
Dubbs’ Take: Merritt made the playoff here last year and tends to sneak under the radar on the PGA Tour. Count on him to ride last year’s momentum and familiarity with this course into this weekend.
With previous success in mind, the +110 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook look especially enticing. This is a ripe “plus-money peach” according to Dubbs.
