Michigan vs. Purdue Predictions
Remember last year’s Big Ten Championship? Michigan, off the heels of a huge victory over rival Ohio State, pummeled Iowa 42-3. While it’s difficult to believe the Wolverines will win by nearly 40 points this time around, they could realistically cover this 16-point spread.
Michigan discarded Ohio State on the road by a score of 45-23. The Wolverines have won by 21+ points in five of its last six games. Purdue isn’t a bad team by any stretch of the imagination, but the Boilermakers don’t have much of a running game. That puts Purdue in predictable passing situations against a sound defense that can get after the quarterback. If you look at Michigan’s close calls this season, especially the near-upset against Illinois, the opponent was able to run the football and play field position. Purdue doesn’t have that ability.
The Wolverines are motivated to make it into the playoffs while Purdue is just happy to sneak into the Big Ten Championship. Michigan soundly defeated its top competition this season, smacking Penn State 41-17 as well as the aforementioned 22-point victory over Ohio State.
Michigan should win this game going away, and taking the 16 points on the spread feels like the right choice.
