MLB Strikeout Props Notes

Shohei Ohtani (SP – LAA) Under 6.5 K: Ohtani hasn’t been striking out many batters lately. At least not at the rate we are accustomed to. He has fallen under 6.5 strikeouts in each of his last two games, and the two-way superstar is taking on a Seattle team that ranks middle-of-the-pack in strikeout rate.

Tyler Wells (SP – BAL) Under 4.5 K: Toronto has the eighth-lowest strikeout rate. Wells has fallen under this number in 8-of-12 starts this season.

Luis Severino (SP – NYY) Over 6.5 K: Tampa Bay has the 11th highest strikeout rate. Severino has gone over 6.5 strikeouts in five of his last six starts. The last time he faced the Rays (May 29), Severino racked up 8 strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

Paul Blackburn (SP – OAK) Under 3.5 K: The Red Sox have the seventh-lowest strikeout rate. Blackburn has fallen under 3.5 strikeouts in five of his last seven. He faced Boston on June 4, finishing the game with only three strikeouts across four innings.

Aaron Ashby (SP – MIL) Under 5.5 K: Ashby’s strikeout totals have been all over the place. Case in point: He racked up 12 K’s against the Cubs on May 30, then posted only two at Washington last Friday. There’s reason to believe we’ll see something closer to the former, as Ashby is taking on a Mets team that has the fourth-lowest strikeout rate.

Top HR Props Notes

Rafael Devers (3B – BOS): Devers was in Wednesday’s article, and he came through with a homer. That marks three straight games with a round-tripper. Now he has another strong matchup against Oakland RHP Blackburn and a non-imposing A’s bullpen.

Nathaniel Lowe (1B – TEX): This is solid value for Lowe. He has capable power upside while stepping into a nice matchup against Detroit RHP Beau Brieske, who has an inflated 2.27 HR/9 rate in 47.2 innings.

Alec Bohm (3B – PHI): Washington LHP Patrick Corbin has gotten hit hard this season. Bohm has solid career numbers against him, and the 2022 version of Corbin is the worst of his career. You can get appealing value at +425.

Rhys Hoskins (1B – PHI): It’s all about price! Hoskins has matchup potential, as noted in the previous write-up with his teammate. However, these odds suggest he has a 26% chance to hit a homer. Hoskins has two homers in 30 plate appearances against Corbin. That’s only a 6% success rate. Take the under.

Luke Voit (1B – SD): The wind is blowing out in Wrigley Field, so we have short numbers in this game. He has homered in three of his last four games, but that has led to insane odds to the over. You better believe the Cubs will pitch him carefully. This is all about price. You can parlay Voit and Hoskins under for close to even money.
