Who Is Favored To Win The AL MVP?

Shohei Ohtani is favored to win the American League MVP. In 2022, Ohtani trailed Aaron Judge by only a small margin in the MVP race for a good portion of the season.

2023 looks to be another dual-threat season for Ohtani as he stands atop the BetMGM odds to take home the AL MVP award. The Angels ace looks to back up his 15-9 record and 2.33 ERA with another stellar season. A .273 batting average in 2022 definitely helped his cause as well to be the favorite for the AL MVP in 2023.

AL MVP Odds Movement & News

Feb. 27: As previously mentioned, Ohtani is the favorite to take home the AL MVP award. Last year, Ohtani set a career-high with 219 strikeouts and 34 home runs. As the only notable offensive and defensive threat in the league, BetMGM has him favored at +200 ahead of last year’s MVP, Aaron Judge.

After signing the third largest contract of all time with the Yankees, Aaron Judge has +500 odds to back up his AL MVP award in 2022. The newly appointed Yankees captain nearly won the triple crown with a .311 batting average and an American League record 62 home runs. All things considered, Judge may not repeat this kind of success in 2023 but still sits in second with +500 odds to take home the AL MVP.

Mike Trout sits in third with +650 odds to win the AL MVP. Even though Trout’s seasons are beginning to shorten as the injuries seem to start piling up, the Angels superstar is still putting up MVP-caliber numbers. A .283 batting average and 40 home runs in 119 games last season easily secured him a spot behind the two obvious front runners, Judge and Ohtani.

How To Read AL MVP Odds

Betting odds aren’t anything for inexperienced bettors to sweat. The odds for the most valuable player award are presented in minus or plus fashion. A line, such as Aaron Judge at -130, means a bettor must bet $130 for a $230 payout, resulting in a $100 profit. Smaller-scale bettors can bet $55 for a $97.31 payout.

Conversely, plus odds are even easier to understand. For example, odds of +15000 on an underdog mean a $100 wager will payout $15,100. With long odds like that, even a recreational sports bettor can have fun betting on a darkhorse since a $10 bet would payout $1,510.

So it’s enticing to bet on underdogs and less exciting chasing chalk — a popular term for the betting favorite, especially when they’re at minus odds. Additionally, since getting the most favorable odds to win is advantageous, you should shop for the best odds for the American League MVP at all betting sites. Moreover, the MLB season is long, with ups and downs. Therefore, you must be vigilant and regularly check MVP odds.
