Good news for sports bettors: College basketball’s regular season is heating up fast, with several Power 5 conferences getting a jump-start on league play this month.

Going forward, Props.com will profile one marquee game every Monday through Thursday, examining that matchup from a college basketball betting perspective.

Thursday’s matchup features a pair of teams from prominent leagues … but with a rare history of sharing the same court (1969, 2002, 2004).

Odds & Ends

— Seton Hall has lost seven of its last eight games against nationally-ranked opponents, the lone exception being a 67-65 upset at Michigan as an 8.5-point underdog on Nov. 16. The Pirates followed that win with a hard-fought 79-76 neutral-site loss to then-unranked Ohio State, barely failing to cash as a 2.5-point underdog.

— Seton Hall started the season 3-0 ATS but is 1-3 ATS in its last four lined games.

— Texas has ripped off six consecutive victories since its lone defeat, an 86-74 loss at then-No. 1 Gonzaga on Nov. 13. The Longhorns failed to cash as a 7-point underdog in that one, but they’re 3-1 ATS in their last four.

— Aside from Gonzaga, Texas’ only other notable opponent was San Jose State, and the Longhorns rolled 79-45 as a 29-point home chalk. All six of the team’s victories have been by 13-plus points.

— Seton Hall’s last five matchups against Big 12 foes (dating to November 2013) have featured combined totals of 160, 142, 168, 162, and 171 points.

— Texas has faced six Big East opponents in the last four years. The teams combined for an average of 132.9 points per game in those contests.

— This season, the Longhorns and their opponents are averaging 131.9 combined points per game, while Seton Hall and its foes are averaging 144.9 points per outing.

— Player to Watch: Texas forward Timmy Allen leads the team in scoring (13.3 points per game), rebounds (5.6), and assists (2.7). The Utah transfer — who averaged 17-plus points the previous two seasons with the Utes — has scored in double digits in six consecutive outings, including an 18-point, six-rebound effort against Gonzaga.
