Overrated Fantasy QBs

Let’s talk about Kirk Cousins (QB – MIN), shall we? The Vikings had plenty of shootouts and comeback wins that allowed him to pad some stats. Because of that, he finished as QB7 in 2022. But let’s be real, his numbers were only slightly more impressive than Jared Goff’s, and his 29 passing touchdowns with 14 interceptions were on par with Derek Carr’s rather “meh” year for the Raiders. And remember, Cousins was feasting on game scripts like a kid in a candy store. So, don’t be surprised if he comes down with a serious case of fantasy indigestion this year.

And then there’s Daniel Jones (QB – NYG). Sure, he had a breakout season, but most of it was thanks to his 708 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. But that begs the question: do the Giants really want their $160 million man running the ball that often? They had to rely on Jones’ legs last season because their offense had fewer options than a vegan at a steakhouse. With only 15 touchdown passes last season, any dip in his rushing numbers would hit his fantasy value like a wrecking ball.

Underrated Fantasy QBs

Now, let’s move on to the unsung heroes of fantasy football. Geno Smith (QB – SEA) might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of “underrated”, as Fantasy Twitter has been singing this guy’s praises in the offseason. Still, hear me out. This guy finished as QB5 last year, and the Seahawks added another receiving weapon with rookie WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (who has fourth-best NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds). Despite this, Smith is currently sitting at QB15 in the Underdog Fantasy Best Ball ADP, which is like finding a clean pair of Air Jordans at a thrift store. It’s a steal!

And let’s not forget about Jimmy Garoppolo (QB – LVR), the fantasy football equivalent of a reliable old car. Sure, he’s not the flashiest option, but he’ll get you from point A to point B. Despite averaging 16.7 fantasy points per game before his injury last season, his current Underdog ADP has him as QB31. That put him in the same FPPG range as guys like Justin Herbert (17.0) and Jared Goff (17.1) last season. Sure, Garoppolo isn’t the most exciting pick, and his upside is limited, but he’s a solid option to have in your back pocket. So go ahead and give Jimmy G a chance. He might just surprise you.
