John Deere Classic Picks
The John Deere Classic will be played at TPC Deere Run in Illinois. Lucas Glover won this event in 2021, and he holds 45-1 odds to claim the top spot this time around. Recent winners of this tournament also include Dylan Frittelli (2019), Michael Kim (2018), Bryson DeChambeau (2017), and Ryan Moore (2016).
As Dubbs noted on the podcast, this is a shorter course with long greens that rewards solid positional play. TPC Deere Run also benefits the short-game players who have a knack for accuracy and precision with their approach. With that in mind, strokes gained around the green, strokes gained on approach, and strokes gained putting are the most important metrics to monitor heading into this event.

Sahith Theegala Outright Winner (+2200)
Best odds available: +2200 at FanDuel Sportsbook
Dubbs’ Take: Theegala had an impressive outing last week in the Travelers Championship with his tie for second place, and Dubbs expects him to keep that momentum going. Even though this is his first season on the PGA, the rookie has five top 10 finishes to his name, so taking down this event would come as no surprise.
Let’s consider his PGA rankings up to this point:
- 76th in strokes gained off the tee,
- 78th in strokes gained on approach
- 64th in strokes gained around the green
In other words, Theegala has a solid all-around game. If his putter gets hot, then there’s a chance he competes for the win.
Anirban Lahiri Outright Winner (+5000)
Best odds available: +5000 at Caesars Sportsbook
Dubbs’ Take: The ultimate chess player on the golf course, Lahiri is an 18-time overall winner but has yet to get it done on the PGA Tour. This weekend could be his time to shine.
Lahiri is 38th in strokes gained off the tee and 55th in strokes gained around the green. That bodes extremely well for this course.
If you recall, Lahiri finished second at the Players Championship earlier this year, so you know he has what it takes to make a run at the top spot.
This is an overall weak field compared to previous PGA Tour events. That makes Lahiri an enticing value at 50-1 odds.
Maverick McNealy Top 20 Finish (+150)
Best odds available: +150 at DraftKings Sportsbook
Dubbs’ Take: This is the “plus money peach” of the week according to Dubbs. The pick? Maverick “Top Gun” McNealy is +150 on DraftKings to finish in the Top 20. Dubbs emphasizes that this bet is too sweet to pass up.
McNealy has played in 20 events so far. He has made the cut in 16 of them. McNealy is 40th in strokes gained putting, which is important on a course like TPC Deere Run that favors the short game.
If the rising star can put together a solid weekend on this short course with soft greens that favor his accuracy, this bet could pay off big time.
