Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher Reid Detmers experienced the highs and lows of baseball in his past two starts. After throwing a no-hitter against the Rays in just his 11th career start May 10, he didn’t make it out of the fourth inning against the Rangers in Texas on May 17.
Now Detmers faces the Rangers again Wednesday — this time at home — and oddsmakers expect him to get the job done.

Texas Rangers (18-23) vs Los Angeles Angels (27-17)
First pitch/TV: 9:38 p.m. ET/MLB Network (regional) & MLB.TV
Pitching matchup: RHP Glenn Otto (1-2, 5.55 ERA, 1.48 WHIP) vs LHP Reid Detmers (2-1, 4.15 ERA, 0.89 WHIP)
Season series: Tied 4-4 after the Angels’ 5-3 victory Tuesday.
Did you know: The Rangers and Angels have played each other dead even over the past 13 seasons at 113-113.
About the Rangers
Hits & Misses: Texas has lost three straight and four of five after a four-game winning streak brought the team within two wins of the .500 mark. That four-game winning streak included a three-game home sweep of Los Angeles on May 16-18, but the Angels won the opener of this two-game set in Anaheim on Tuesday. The Rangers have struggled at the plate this season, ranking 26th in MLB in team batting average (.222) and 28th in OPS (.640). 2B Marcus Semien has been a black hole in the lineup after signing a seven-year, $175 million deal in the offseason. He is hitting .177 with no home runs after hitting 45 homers last season with Toronto. Texas has scored only 10 runs in the past five games, leading to five straight Unders. Texas is 22-17-2 to the Under this season.
Otto vs Angels: The right-hander has not enjoyed an auspicious beginning to his career, going 1-5 with a 7.36 ERA in 11 starts over the past two seasons. He has “improved” with a 5.55 ERA so far this year and his first MLB victory, though he has barely more strikeouts (18) than walks (13). In his last outing, Otto gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings in a 5-1 loss to Houston. The 26-year-old former fifth-round pick has faced the Angels twice, both last season. He gave up seven runs in 6.2 total innings, getting a pair of no-decisions in a 7-6 home win and a 3-2 road loss.
Key injuries: Closer Joe Barlow continues to be unavailable with a blister on his right index finger. … RP Jose Leclerc (elbow) has begun a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco after missing almost all of the past two seasons with various arm ailments.
About the Angels
Hits & Misses: Los Angeles extended its winning streak to three with Tuesday’s victory. That follows a four-game losing streak that included the sweep at Texas. The Angels are 5-5 in their last 10 but still trail Houston by only one game in the AL West as they seek their first playoff appearance since 2014. Los Angeles has the third-best run differential in baseball (+53), behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers (+102) and New York Yankees (+66). The Angels are second in the majors in home runs (60) and seventh in team batting average (.249). Three of the Angels’ last four games have stayed Under, and they are 21-18-5 to the Under this season.
Detmers vs Rangers: The left-hander got roughed up by the Rangers in his last outing, giving up three runs on two home runs in 3.2 innings in a 10-5 loss. That was Detmers’ first start since no-hitting Tampa Bay at home on May 10. The 22-year-old was beat up worse by the Rangers on April 15, allowing five runs in 3.1 innings, but he got a no-decision after his offense bailed him out in a 9-6 victory. Detmers has allowed only three runs in his past three starts at home (19 innings). In fact, he has a 1.96 ERA in four home starts but an 8.49 ERA in three road outings.
Key injuries: OF Taylor Ward has missed three straight games after suffering a stinger from running into the outfield wall Friday in Oakland. He is pain-free, but the Angels won’t play him in the field until his strength returns. … RP Archie Bradley (abdominal strain) was activated from the injured list Monday. He has not pitched since April 29.
