Forget picking a side. The Under has been the play so far in the Toronto Blue Jays-New York Yankees series, and that could be the case again on the Wednesday MLB odds slate.

The Blue Jays and Yankees traded low-scoring shutouts in their first two meetings this week. Now, they send aces Jose Berrios and Gerrit Cole out to the mound, though both struggled in their openers.

Toronto: 3-2 (2-3 O/U)
New York: 3-2 (1-4 O/U)
Moneyline/Runline/Total: Yankees -173/Yankees -1.5 +125/8.5

Pitching Matchup (2021 stats): TOR RHP Jose Berrios 12-9, 192.0 IP, 45 BB, 204 SO, 3.47 FIP … NYY RHP Gerrit Cole 16-8, 181.1 IP, 41 BB, 243 SO, 2.92 FIP

Season Series: The Yankees evened this year’s series at 1 with a 4-0 victory Tuesday, after Toronto won the opener 3-0. The Blue Jays won last year’s season series 11-8.

Did you know: Two trends in this series continued to fire Tuesday. Only four of the teams’ 19 meetings last season were one-run games, and the Under went 12-6-1. Games 1 and 2 of this week’s series were multi-run wins, and the Under hit in both.

About Toronto: The Yankees got to Blue Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi early Tuesday, as he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings in the 4-0 loss. Toronto was held to fewer than three runs for the first time this season. Center fielder and leadoff hitter George Springer continued his tear to open the season, going 2-for-4 to raise his batting average to .409.

About Jose Berrios: Toronto acquired Berrios in a trade with Minnesota during last season, then signed the right-hander to a seven-year, $131 million extension in the offseason. That big signing fell flat on opening day, as Berrios recorded only one out in the first inning before being pulled after giving up four runs on three hits and two walks against Texas. “I was trying to be too perfect, like too nasty, and I didn’t throw the ball over the plate,” Berríos said after the game. He was 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA (3.28 FIP) in 12 starts after the trade to Toronto last season.

About New York: The Yankees ended a two-game skid with Tuesday’s victory. Nestor Cortes pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and no walks. New York took control with a two-run home run from outfielder Aaron Hicks in the second inning. The Yankees still have not scored more than four runs in a game since scoring six in the opener.

About Gerrit Cole: The Yankees ace will try to bounce back from a subpar outing in the opener, when he allowed three runs on four hits in four innings. Cole had three strikeouts and one walk in a game New York ultimately won 6-5 in 11 innings. Cole was 2-1 in five starts against Toronto last season, allowing three runs or fewer in four of the games.

Injuries: No changes after Tuesday’s game. Toronto C Danny Jansen went on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left oblique strain. Yankees C Ben Rortvedt remains on the 10-day injured list and will be back sometime this month from his oblique strain.

Season Series: The White Sox won the teams’ first meeting of this season 3-2 on Tuesday. The teams split their series last season 3-3.

Did you know: Wednesday’s game pits two former AL Cy Young winners now playing for different teams. Ray took last season’s honors with Toronto, and Keuchel won in 2015 while with Houston. The Mariners have the longest postseason drought in baseball, last reaching the playoffs in 2001. The White Sox haven’t won a playoff series since winning the 2005 World Series.

About Seattle: The Mariners have lost three straight after two wins to start the season. They tried to rally in the ninth Tuesday, scoring one run and getting the tying run to second before falling 3-2. Seattle is struggling badly at the plate, with only two regulars, SS J.P. Crawford (.333) and 3B Ty France (.278), batting higher than .188.

About Robbie Ray: The reigning AL Cy Young winner left Toronto in the offseason to sign with Seattle on a five-year, $115 million deal. He led the AL with a 2.84 ERA and led the majors with 248 strikeouts last season. Ray was rock solid in his Mariners debut, allowing only one run on three hits in seven innings, with five strikeouts and four walks, in a 2-1 Seattle victory over Minnesota.

About Chicago: The White Sox have won three straight since losing their opener to Detroit. DH Andrew Vaughn is off to a hot start, hitting .400 with two home runs and six RBIs. Five White Sox are hitting .333 or better so far.

About Dallas Keuchel: Keuchel makes his season debut as he tries to rebound from a terrible 2021. Keuchel went 9-9 with a 5.28 ERA (the worst of his career), 5.23 FIP and 0.6 WAR (both the worst since his rookie season). He had no-decisions in two starts against Seattle last season, allowing five runs and 10 hits in 10 innings.

Injuries: Chicago OF AJ Pollock is on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hamstring. White Sox 3B Yoan Moncada is in the first week of what is expected to be a three-week absence with a right oblique strain.
