UConn vs. Xavier Game Preview
Xavier (16-4, 8-1 Big East) suffered an upset loss at DePaul last Wednesday, which was its first conference defeat of the season. However, the Musketeers bounced back with a 95-82 victory over Georgetown on Saturday. These teams met earlier this season (Dec. 31), and Xavier pulled away with an 83-73 victory at home. Having said that, playing on the road against a motivated UConn team could be a different story. That’s especially true after Xavier showed vulnerability away from home last week.
UConn (16-5, 5-5 Big East) got off to a fast start this season with dominating victories over good teams like Oregon, Alabama, Iowa State, and Florida. However, the Huskies have stumbled in Big East action lately, losing five of their last seven games. It should be noted that only one of those losses came at home, an 85-74 loss to St. John’s on Jan. 15. UConn looked more like its dominant self in its most recent game, crushing Butler 86-56 on Saturday.
UConn vs. Xavier Prediction
Xavier is going to be a popular pick here, and we aren’t overthinking it. It’s somewhat concerning that the Musketeers are playing in a tough road environment, but they should be able to keep this one close. They could grab the outright upset too. At the very least, this is too many points in a game between a pair of teams that can be considered even for all intents and purposes. Xavier knows it can beat UConn, and the Musketeers will look to make it 2-0 against the Huskies this season.
