Which QB Will Take Over In Seattle?
Pete Carroll recently said he believes he has two “true No. 1s” in quarterbacks Geno Smith and Drew Lock. It certainly has not been easy for Carroll to make his first starting quarterback decision in ten years.
DK Metcalf says "I'm supposed to be playing" Friday at Dallas.
Shaping up as Seahawks 1s playing more, Geno Smith, Drew Lock splitting time early with the 1s in the preseason finale, then Lock playing the rest of the game. Question remains: How long will starters play with Lock?
— Gregg Bell (@gbellseattle) August 23, 2022
We should see both Smith and Lock behind center with the first unit. While the rest of the starters shouldn’t play more than a quarter, we should see each quarterback out for an extensive period of time.
I don’t think we’ll get a gauge of who will start Week 1 unless someone blatantly performs better in this final preseason game.
Cowboys’ Starters To Sit For Finale
The Cowboys have no debate about their starting QB: Dak Prescott. The longtime Dallas starter has not logged any playing time in the preseason, and head coach Mike McCarthy has confirmed that Prescott will hold the clipboard for the preseason finale. Look for Ben DiNucci, Cooper Rush, and Will Grier to all get time behind center as they’ll battle for the backup spot.
It doesn’t sound like there will be any preseason work for Dak Prescott or most of the other Cowboys starters. Dallas will likely go with mostly reserves Friday night against Seattle, same as their first two preseason games
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) August 23, 2022
Along with Prescott, we shouldn’t expect any Dallas starters to see the field on Friday. Ezekiel Elliot and CeeDee Lamb have yet to see the field in any preseason game, and McCarthy isn’t going to run them out with the second unit.
Even with two quarterbacks that have previously started in the NFL, the Seahawks have yet to get a victory in the preseason this year.
Seahawks vs. Cowboys Prediction
This game should play out similarly to the Seahawks’ first preseason contest. That means Smith and Lock will get a majority (if not all) of the snaps. Quarterback competitions are usually good for preseason expectations, and that’s the case with Seattle here. Taking a pair of motivated Seahawks’ signal-callers against an underwhelming group of Dallas backups is the right call.
Prediction 1: Seahawks -7 | -110 at DraftKings Sportsbook
The last time both Lock and Smith started, the Seahawks put up 25 points against the Steelers. They should be able to match and even exceed that on Friday.
All of the Cowboys’ quarterbacks have also started a game at some point in the NFL, and they should also be successful against a Seattle defense that has allowed 59 points in the preseason.
Expect a high-scoring preseason finale in Jerry’s World.
Prediction 2: Over 37 total points | -110 at DraftKings Sportsbook
