Dubbs Anderson, former PGA Tour caddy and host of the Props Golf podcast, came within a stroke of cashing his 17-1 outright winner ticket (Patrick Cantlay) for last week’s Memorial Tournament. Close call, but he’ll look to get back on track with more best bets, props, and sleeper picks for the Canadian Open. This event starts the morning of Thursday, June 9 – so read up and get those picks in!

In addition to this betting preview, Anderson will release an episode Friday evening in which he will offer his favorite wagering opportunities heading into the weekend.

With that, here are Dubbs’ top RBC Canadian Open picks and best bets across the golf betting markets.

Odds updated as of 8:00 a.m. ET on June 8.

RBC Canadian Open Picks

This week’s PGA Tour event will be played at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Ontario, Canada. This tournament has not been played since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last five winners include Rory McIlroy (2019), Dustin Johnson (2018), Jhonnatan Vegas (2017, 2016), and Jason Day (2015).

As Dubbs noted on the podcast, St. George’s is a tighter course that will be kind to those who excel in the short game. Accuracy off the tee, strokes gained on approach, and strokes gained around the green are the most important metrics to monitor heading into this event.

The following are edited excerpts of Anderson’s analysis from his latest episode of Props Golf, which he hosts twice weekly.

Justin Thomas Outright Winner (+950)

Best odds available: +950 at FanDuel Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: Let’s take a look at the stats for Thomas. Pay attention to how well they mesh with this course (the key factors listed above):

  • 19th in strokes gained off the tee
  • 10th in strokes gained on approach
  • 20th in strokes gained around the green
  • 48th in strokes gained putting

Thomas is probably one of the better iron players in the field this week. His putting has been holding him back, but that’s a matter of confidence and momentum. He seems to have that in spades after winning the PGA Championship a few weeks ago.

Sure, Thomas failed to make the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge last time out, but that was due to fatigue while coming off the PGA Championship. There’s no concern in that department while heading into the RBC Canadian Open. Thomas should be rested and ready to get back to his winning ways.

You can find the best price on Thomas’ outright winner odds (+950) at FanDuel Sportsbook, which is better than +700 at DraftKings.

Chris Kirk Outright Winner (+5000)

Best odds available: +5000 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: Kirk is a four-time winner on the PGA Tour, but he hasn’t joined the winner’s circle since the 2014-15 season. This could be a spot for him to return.

Kirk is a ‘chess player’ who is well-suited for this course. Consider his strong stats in these areas:

  • 26th in strokes gained off the tee
  • 5th in strokes gained around the green
  • 41st in driving accuracy

Nevermind his tough performance at the Memorial last weekend. If you recall, Kirk tied for fifth in the PGA Championship just a few weeks back. The tougher courses bring out the best in this guy, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him move up the leaderboard at the RBC Canadian Open.

You can find the best outright winner odds for Kirk (+5000) at DraftKings Sportsbook. That’s much better than 40-1 at Caesars and BetMGM. Always shop for the best price!

Tyrrell Hatton Top 20 Finish (+125)

Best odds available: +125 at FanDuel Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: We love the angry Englishman and his skillset on this course. His form is pretty good too, cracking the Top 20 in five of his last ten tournaments.

His only weakness comes off the tee. That shouldn’t be as big of an issue on a smaller course like St. George’s Golf and Country Club.

On the other hand, Hatton is 48th in strokes gained on approach, and his iron play could be a major asset this weekend. He’s ranked 54th in strokes gained around the green and second in strokes gained putting, which doesn’t hurt one bit.

Hatton’s odds to finish in the Top 20 are all over the place, so make sure you head over to FanDuel for a cool +125 price. That’s way better than -120 on DraftKings.
