Cole’’s looked much better on the surface level in the playoffs. His strikeouts are down drastically, though, entering this game with a 6.45 K/9 and a 17% strikeout rate. He boasts a 2.82 ERA, although his 5.18 xFIP suggests he’s due for quite a bit of regression.
Cole gets a terrible matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have looked unstoppable throughout the playoffs. He saw them less than a week ago, recording only 4 strikeouts across 6 innings.
I’m giving the edge to Los Angeles for having just seen Cole, and I’m not entirely sure he will come out of this game with another quality start. Even if he does, we’re getting a push at 5 strikeouts, which is too good to pass up for a pitcher who hasn’t recorded more than 4 strikeouts in a playoff game this season.
