Inning Pitched – Each inning pitched by a starter is worth three fantasy points

Ballpark Conditions – Several things play into a ballpark being “pitcher friendly.” Some of these factors include dimensions, park design, and the weather.
There are five major ballparks to consider when searching for favorable pitching matchups to yield the most fantasy points:
- AT&T Park (Giants) – No ballpark is worse for left-handed hitters than AT&T Park. It contains the deepest right center field measurement (421 feet) with 21-foot-tall fences that nerf even the best home run hitters in opposing lineups.
- Petco Park (Padres) – With a strikeout potential that ranks sixth in the majors, San Diego is a nightmare for left-handed hitters. The large outfield, cold sea air, and heavy atmospheric conditions tend to slow down many batted balls.
- Angel Stadium (Angels) – This ballpark holds the accolade of the only major league stadium to rank in the top-10 most pitching friendly in every major category
- Safeco Field (Mariners) – The west coast marine layer plays a role in many of the dynamics for opponents of the Mariners. This field boasts the seventh-highest strikeout rate likely due to how close to sea level every game is played at.
- PNC Park (Pirates) – A 25-foot-high fence in right field makes this ballpark extremely difficult to have success in. But don’t expect lots of strikeouts here since it has the third-worst strikeout factor.
Pitcher Fantasy Score Key Matchup Statistics
Every pitcher accumulates stats throughout the year that you should be paying attention to when making your picks:
- Strikeouts – The most obvious of the metrics, but typically, pitchers who strikeout the most batters typically have the highest fantasy scores.
- WHIP – A lower WHIP indicates a pitcher’s ability to limit hits and walks, making for less docks to their overall fantasy score.
- K/9 – A higher number here shows a pitcher’s ability to strikeout batters frequently, which will improve fantasy scores in every matchup.
- K-BB% – This is the difference between strikeout rate and walk rate per nine innings. Essentially, a positive number here means a pitcher strikes out more batters than they walk.
- SIERA – This is the only metric that takes into consideration more than just strikeouts and walks, so it will provide a more comprehensive metric in a pitcher’s performance that includes factoring in ballpark conditions etc.
- FIP – Fielding independent pitching focuses on factors a pitcher can control. This is major statistic used to uncover regression candidates.
