Thursday Night Football Props: Week 16 Picks

Josh Shepardson breaks down his top Week 16 TNF picks for tonight:

MORE PROPS: NFL | NBA | NHL | PGA | CFB

Bo Nix More Than 18.5 Rushing Yards (1.70x)

Bo Nix didn’t have an encouraging game out of Denver’s Week 14 bye. Still, the rookie’s rushing ability was on display, scampering for 23 rushing yards on eight attempts against the Colts. According to Pro Football Reference, Nix has 23.4 rushing yards per game in 14 starts this season.

Nix has picked up yardage as a designed runner and a scrambler. Per the data suite at Fantasy Points, Nix has scrambled 38 times for 264 rushing yards this year. Thus, this season, 264 of his 327 rushing yards (80.7%) were on scrambles.

It’s helpful for Nix’s rushing production that he’s used on designed runs. However, his scrambling acumen is especially notable given Denver’s offensive tendencies. According to RotoViz’s pace app, the Broncos have had a 57% situation-neutral pass rate this year, 62% since Week 11, and 66% in Week 15, which is noteworthy since it was their first game after the bye.

Nix has surpassed 18.5 rushing yards in seven of 14 contests, including amassing 61 on six rush attempts in a losing effort against the Chargers in Week 6. Los Angeles has permitted 23.0 rushing yards per game to quarterbacks this year. Nix can eclipse 18.5 rushing yards against the Chargers for the second time this year on Thursday Night Football. Finally, Nix’s rushing line at Sleeper is a slight value compared to 19.5 at Underdog. As always, it’s optimal to line shop to maximize every edge.

Where to play: Bo Nix More Than 18.5 Rushing Yards | Sleeper

Gus Edwards Less Than 10.5 Rush Attempts

Gus Edwards was the subject of one of my favorite offseason trivia notes. The Gus Bus is 100 days older than Ezekiel Elliott. It’s easier to understand Edwards’ dive off the cliff when framing his age that way.

Edwards had a career-low 4.1 yards per carry for the Ravens last year, and that’s dipped to a new low of 3.4 this season. He’s no longer benefiting from playing in the same backfield as Lamar Jackson, and his inefficiency has prompted the Chargers to air it out more in J.K. Dobbins’s absence.

The Chargers have had a 64% situation-neutral pass rate in three games without Dobbins. Ladd McConkey was out of one of those contests. Still, Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman aren’t senselessly running the ball for three yards and a cloud of dust.

Since tallying 11 and 18 rush attempts in Week 1 and Week 2, Edwards has had fewer than 10.5 rush attempts in eight consecutive games. Edwards had six, 10, and eight rush attempts in the three games without Dobbins.

Edwards has also played less than rookie Kimani Vidal in back-to-back games. According to FantasyPros, in Week 13 and Week 14, Vidal had 32 and 35 snaps versus 25 and 14 for Edwards.

Edwards doesn’t have a get-right matchup against a stingy run defense. Moreover, Denver has a pass-funnel defense. Since Week 11, the Broncos have faced a 61% situation-neutral pass rate. So, Edwards should have fewer than 10.5 rush attempts for his ninth consecutive game this week.

Where to play: Gus Edwards Less Than 10.5 Rush Attempts | Underdog
