LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers face off against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night. His current line is 28.5 points for the game and it’s difficult to see him going over that total. One main reason is the fact that Anthony Davis is likely out for this game.
With Davis out, the Philadelphia defense can focus their attention on James. “The King” isn’t a huge threat from beyond the arc, only averaging 2.67 three-pointers per game. Working inside the paint won’t be easy either, as he’ll have to meet capable rim-protector Joel Embiid at the bucket.

Joel Embiid OVER 49.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists
This pick is a no-brainer with Joel Embiid’s recent performance against the Pelicans. He scored 42 points against New Orleans and paired it with 14 rebounds last time out. Repeating this type of performance against the Lakers at home won’t be a tough task, especially considering Davis is out for Los Angeles.

This might seem like a lot for Embiid to put together, but his average at home in the last ten games is 52.83. Considering the way he’ll dominate the paint against the Lakers, we think this is an incredible pick. Philadelphia also has a great supporting cast, allowing Embiid to drive up assist numbers.
Something to keep in mind is that the Lakers have one of the worst defenses in the NBA. On average, they allow 112.31 points per game, ranking 26th in the NBA. Embiid’s going to have another monster game, so don’t miss out on this pick.
Stephen Curry OVER 24.5 Points
It’s hard to argue with the shooting ability of Stephen Curry, even though he’s struggled lately. Curry has averaged just 23.0 points at home over the last ten games. Still, taking on Minnesota is a favorable matchup since Patrick Beverley is questionable with an ankle injury.
Beverley, the lockdown defender, would be the player tasked with guarding Curry. With Beverly out, Minnesota would have to turn Jaylen Nowell or other lesser defenders to try and limit the NBA’s three-point king. This gives Curry the perfect opportunity to light up the scoreboard.

Just because Curry has struggled to knock down shots, doesn’t mean he’ll stay in that slump. This game gives him a chance to face the NBA’s 18th ranked defense while being guarded by bench players. He’s -110 to go over his total, so there’s not a ton of juice to pay. It helps that Minnesota ranks second in possessions per game, which should increase scoring opportunities for both sides in this up-tempo draw.
