Wednesday’s Best Bets went 1-2, a rare losing day for our crack team of prognosticators. We’ve had a couple of pushes over the past week-plus, but flying below .500 on the day has been rare.

On the bright side, the Bostonian vs. The Book team has seemingly found a groove. The guys cashed with Washington (-2 vs. Utah) last night, boosting their record to a clean 3-0 on the week. Their quest for a perfect five-day stretch continues Wednesday night.

With that, let’s jump into our trio of Thursday Best Bets, starting with the red-hot guys from The Bostonian vs. The Book Podcast.

The bet: Iowa State +8.5 (vs. Texas Tech)
The odds: -110
Where to bet: FanDuel
From: Matt Perrault via The Bostonian Vs. The Book Podcast

How does Bostonian vs. The Book co-host Matt Perrault plan to extend his winning streak to four in a row? By backing a big underdog in the Big 12 Tournament, leaning on Iowa State +8.5 (vs. Texas Tech).

Perrault’s siding with the Cyclones in part because of an expected crowd advantage, despite the game being played on a neutral floor.

“Iowa State has the No. 2 fanbase in [the Big 12 Tournament in] Kansas City this week,” Perrault said. “The Cyclones bring it; they play so hard in this tournament. ”

Perrault acknowledged that Texas Tech will probably win this game, but he thinks it will be closer than the experts suspect.

“I think [Texas Tech] wins by five,” Perrault added. “I believe this will be a solid performance by Iowa State.”

It’s worth noting that Texas Tech beat Iowa State 72-60 in their last meeting (Jan. 18), but the Cyclones won the first matchup 51-47 at home on Jan. 5.

If you are looking to tail Perrault on this bet, you can snag Iowa State +8.5 (-110) at FanDuel.

Perrault listed four other bets he likes during Thursday’s Bostonian vs. The Book podcast – all college basketball sides. You can listen to the replay on Youtube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.

NHL Prop: Calgary Flames LW Johnny Gaudreau

The bet: Over 0.5 assists (vs. Tampa Bay)
The odds: -115
Where to bet: DraftKings

We’ve got a bona fide potential Stanley Cup preview in Alberta tonight. Lock your doors. Hide your pets. Import as much Molson as you can get your hands on. And Gaudreau should be right in the middle of it.

The Elias Lindholm-Gaudreau-Matthew Tkachuk line has been among the very best in hockey, potting 1.6 goals per 20 minutes. Gaudreau is currently tied with Connor McDavid (who?) for the second-most helpers in the league. A big reason why: He has 15 assists in his last 13 games, including at least one in 10 of those contests.

This NHL prop has “dance with the one who brung you” written all over it. That is, if hockey games had old-timey platitudes written on them.

NBA Prop: Philadelphia 76ers F Tobias Harris
