College World Series Final Predictions: Game 3

LSU was forced to play two additional elimination games before the CWS finals. This meant that LSU played five games before the finals, while Florida played only three. LSU ace pitcher, Paul Skenes, started against Wake Forest in the winner-take-all semifinal game on Thursday. However, the off day on Friday could be a game-changer for LSU. Had the CWS finals begun on Friday, Skenes would not have been available for this series. But with the off day, Skenes should be available for this game.

The real question is, for how long will Skenes be able to pitch? Whether he starts or comes in as a reliever is uncertain, but it’s hard to imagine LSU not utilizing Skenes for at least three innings in this game, depending on his pitch count and fatigue. Even if he doesn’t start, we could potentially see Skenes pitch several innings toward the end of the game.

On the other side, the Gators didn’t have to use closer Brandon Neely on Sunday due to their 24-4 blowout win. This gave their high-end bullpen arms some rest, so they’re definitely not maxed out for this game. After a poor hitting performance in Game 1, Florida bounced back on Sunday, performing not only up to standard but beyond anyone’s realistic expectations. This should give the Gators a lot of confidence heading into Monday night’s championship game.

LSU vs. Florida Game 3 Pick

Despite the odds, our prediction leans towards LSU. After an embarrassing performance last time out, we believe LSU will bounce back. Skenes, being the best pitcher in college baseball, should go at least three innings, and LSU can string together enough outs from its solid rotation to take this one.

On top of that, BetMGM is reporting that 59% of betting tickets are on Florida to win this game, but 55% of the money is backing LSU. That signifies that the “bigger bettors” are taking LSU moneyline with smaller, casual wagerers looking to Florida.
