Thursday Night Football Prop Bets: Week 4

Here’s a trio of Packers vs. Lions player props I like for Thursday’s primetime matchup:

Jordan Love Over 16.5 Rushing Yards (-114)

No one confuses Jordan Love for Justin Fields, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, etc. However, he’s athletic and can gain yards on the ground. In the first three games of the season, Love has rushed for 12, 23, and 39 yards, eclipsing 16.5 rushing yards in Green Bay’s two competitive contests and falling short in their only blowout win in Week 1.

Furthermore, he’s used on designed runs. According to The 33rd Team, Love had a designed run in Week 1 and Week 3. He’s also scrambled seven times this year.

The matchup is stellar for Love’s rushing outlook. The Lions have allowed 68 rushing yards on 11 attempts to quarterbacks this year.

Where to bet: Jordan Love Over 16.5 Rushing Yards | -114 FanDuel Sportsbook

Sam LaPorta Over 4.5 Receptions (+120)

Sam LaPorta is exceeding even his biggest optimist’s expectations. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), among tight ends targeted at least eight times in 2023, LaPorta is second in their receiving grade, second in targets (22), tied for second in receptions (18), first in receiving yards (186), and first in Yards per Route Run (2.24 Y/RR).

The rookie tight end was targeted on a blistering 26.5% of his routes. In addition, LaPorta is fed easy completions. He has only three targets at least 10 air yards downfield.

LaPorta has one target behind the line of scrimmage and 18 from zero to nine yards downfield, catching 16 of those 19 targets.

The studly rookie has five, five, and eight receptions through his first three professional contests. LaPorta should thrive again in a Charmin-soft matchup. Detroit has allowed the most receptions (25) and receiving yards (263) to tight ends this year.

Jayden Reed Over 3.5 Receptions (+124)

Jayden Reed might face more target competition this week since Aaron Jones and Christian Watson are listed as questionable for the game. However, the positives of both returning outweigh the negatives of the added target competition for Reed.

First, Watson and Jones should help the Packers move the ball more effectively, allowing them to maintain possession and run more plays. Second, adding weapons to the offense might encourage Matt LaFleur to cut Love loose more as a passer after deploying a balanced offense through three weeks.

The matchup should also encourage LaFleur to call more passing plays this week. The Lions are stout against the run, and Detroit’s opponents have opted to take to the air against them. According to RotoViz’s pace app, Lions’ opponents have passed on 64% of their 157 plays in a neutral game script this year.

Reed has been an essential part of Green Bay’s passing game this year, ranking third on the team in routes (74) and earning a target on 24.3% of them. The rookie wideout had only two receptions in the opener, followed by four and three. Yet, Reed also had two drops in Week 3, which aren’t sticky. The usage is there for Reed to eclipse 3.5 receptions against a pass-funnel defense.
