The Matchup
You can’t go wrong with either of the two leading sports betting brands in the US, but FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook do differ in some respects.
FanDuel’s current welcome bonus ($1,000 losing bet rebate) gets the edge over DraftKings (Bet $5 Get $150). Keep in mind that the bonus offers from both FanDuel and DraftKings change occasionally.
The selection of available sports are a deadlock between the rival sports betting brands. Both FanDuel and DraftKings boast highly-rated mobile apps, creating another dead heat in that category.
DraftKings’ loyalty program gets the checkmark in that column, while both brands offer a top-rated mobile app and selection of sports.

FanDuel Quick Facts
FanDuel brings to the table a wealth of experience in the online sports betting market. Its online presence dates all the way back to 2006 as a leading Daily Fantasy Sports site long before full-scale legalized online sports betting was available in most states.
However, soon after the Supreme Court overturned PASPA in May 2018, paving the way for individual states to enact their own sports betting laws, FanDuel seized the opportunity to expand its services. FanDuel launched its first online sportsbook on September 6, 2018 for New Jersey players. But that was just the start.
FanDuel Sportsbook now operates legally in 18 states. Four of those states (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia) also offer FanDuel online casino games.
FanDuel States
- Arizona
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Indiana
- Louisiana
- Kansas
- Maryland
- Michigan
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- West Virginia
- Wyoming
The list of FanDuel legal states includes nearly 20 states in which you can legally bet on sports online at FanDuel Sportsbook
Parlaying its excellence in daily fantasy sports operations to the sports betting segment has proven highly successful, and FanDuel understands what it means to offer a transparent and compliant platform.
FanDuel online sportsbook is licensed and regulated in several states that legalize sports betting.
Note that some states operate with different laws pertaining to online sports wagering. For example, New Jersey, New York, and other states don’t allow you to place bets on college sports that involve in-state college teams or events.
A recent change in Canada’s gambling laws allows single-game sports betting in provinces that pass the appropriate legislation. As a result, FanDuel Ontario launched in 2022.
The FanDuel app also includes access to FanDuel Casino in four states–New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia.

$1,000 No Sweat First Bet
This FanDuel Sportsbook standard new player bonus offer requires you to be 21 years of age or older and open an account in one of the states where FanDuel Online Sportsbook is available. You can only claim the offer once, and it applies to your first deposit and cash wager only.
Players who have already accepted another FanDuel welcome bonus are not eligible. An important difference from other FanDuel offers for free bets is that the free bet credit is only forthcoming if your first cash bet loses.
If your first bet loses, FanDuel Sportsbook will cover the loss 100% up to $1,000 as a bonus bet credit. Of course, the amount of the bet cannot exceed the amount of the first deposit.
If your first bet pushes or the game is canceled, the cost of the bet will be refunded, and if your first bet wins, you will also collect your winnings. However, either way, you won’t receive any FanDuel free bets or other bonus bets.
The FanDuel Sportsbook experience, in terms of sign-up bonuses, is similar to other sports betting apps.
Terms and Conditions
- Your first deposit must be a single deposit of $10 or more by an accepted deposit method. Cash deposits at the affiliated land-based casino or via PayNearMe don’t count.
- Your first bet must also be for at least $10. It can be on any betting market and type of bet that FanDuel accepts as long as it is a single wager.
- If your first bet loses, FanDuel Sportsbook will issue you a non-withdrawable site credit within 72 hours for the full amount up to $1,000.
- You then have up to 14 days to use the site credit for one or more bonus bets.
- No same game parlays or round robins are permitted on bonus bets. Bets on opposite sides of the same game are also forbidden. Otherwise, you can select any FanDuel betting market and bet type.
- If a bonus bet wins, you will receive only the winnings from the bet, not the cost of the bet.

FanDuel Deposit Methods
- Play+
- PayPal
- ACH/eCheck
- Online Banking
- Credit/Debit Cards
The wide variety of cashier options on the FanDuel sports betting app should be more than adequate to meet most players’ needs.
Except where otherwise noted, the same methods listed below can be used for both deposits and withdrawals. The minimum deposit and withdrawal for all methods is $10. The maximum varies with the method. Deposits are credited to your account instantly. Processing times for withdrawals and applicable fees, if any, vary with the method.
FanDuel Play+ Card
You can apply for the FanDuel prepaid card online. You will receive a physical card within two weeks, but you don’t have to wait until then to make a deposit. First, you need to fund your Play+ Card. Then transfer $10 or more to your FanDuel Sportsbook account. When you are ready to cash out your winnings, transfer the funds you wish to withdraw back to the card. Then you can either transfer the money back to your bank or withdraw it at an ATM.
PayPal
PayPal is the world’s most widely used e-Wallet. However, only personal PayPal accounts are accepted for FanDuel transactions, not business accounts. Also, you can only use PayPal for withdrawals if you have used it as your last deposit method. When making withdrawals via PayPal, players can request that the money be sent to a linked bank account or they can withdraw the cash at an ATM.
ACH/eCheck
This method can be used for both deposits and withdrawals. It entails linking your FanDuel Sportsbook account with a bank account. You need to provide FanDuel with both your bank’s routing number and your account number.
Online Bank Transfer
If your bank offers online bill paying, this is another way to transfer funds instantly to your FanDuel account. But unlike eChecks, online bank transfers cannot be used for withdrawals.
Credit or Debit Cards
Since many banks decline credit and debit card transactions for gambling purposes, you should check with your bank first if you can deposit money with this method. If allowed, the transaction will be treated as a cash advance. Credit and debit cards can only be used for deposits, not for withdrawals.
Other Payment Options
Other options for funding your account include FanDuel gift cards, wire transfers, and cash deposits via PayNearMe (available at 7-Eleven, CVS, and other select stores) or at the cashier’s cage of the affiliated land-based sportsbook or casino.
However, cash deposits using the latter two methods are not eligible for a FanDuel deposit bonus. Furthermore, only two of these four methods–wire transfers and cash at the affiliated land-based sportsbook or casino–can also be used for withdrawals.
Check by mail is another withdrawal option. However, expect to wait up to two weeks compared to a few days at most with other withdrawal methods.

Bets Available On The FanDuel Sportsbook App
- Moneyline
- Point Spread
- Totals (Over/Under)
- Parlays
- Same Game Parlays
- Futures
- Props
- Live/In-Game Betting
FanDuel Sportsbook accepts all of the most popular bet types, including all of the following:
Moneyline
Moneyline bets are straight bets on which team you think will win outright. Depending on both the linemaker’s assessment of the team’s probability of winning and the amount of money already being bet on that side, the odds can vary considerably.
If you bet on a heavy favorite, you have a high probability of winning but won’t win as much as you would if a team with longer odds wins. Moneylines are also offered with varying odds for individual players to win a certain award or reach a certain milestone.
Point Spread
Instead of betting on which team you think will win a game outright, you can make point spread bets. If you bet on the favorite, the team not only has to win the game but win by enough points to beat the point spread. If the winning margin equals the spread exactly, the bet is a push, and you get your money back.
If the team wins by less than that number or loses, you lose your bet. If you bet on the underdog, the team doesn’t necessarily have to win the game to cash your bet as long as it doesn’t lose by more than the spread. In the 1/15/23 NFL playoff game between Buffalo and Miami, Buffalo was a whopping 14-point favorite. The Bills won the game but only by 3 points (38-35), so they failed to cover the spread.
Point Spread bets are among the most popular wager types offered at online betting sites.
Over/Under
On most games, you can also bet whether the final score will go over or under a designated total. Usually, the odds are -110 either way. For example, in the above-mentioned Bills-Dolphins game, the over/under line was 44. That game wound up going way over the total.
In addition to betting on the over or under for both teams combined for the full game, you can often do so for each quarter and half. Team totals lines are also available. Over/under lines are also frequently offered on the number of games a team will win for the season and as prop bets on individual players.
Parlays & Same Game Parlays
A parlay is a sports bet that includes two or more outcomes. Because each leg of the parlay has to win in order to have a winning ticket, parlays with many legs can produce enormous payouts, but they are very hard to hit. However, FanDuel also offers parlay insurance, whereby you can get your money back on a multileg parlay if every component of the parlay but one is a winner.
FanDuel also offers same game parlay bets (i.e., the point spread with a team total). It even offers the SGP+ option, which allows bettors to create a same game parlay with two or more components and then include additional components from other games in the same bet.
Futures
A futures bet is a wager on an event or outcome that won’t be decided until much later. For example, you can make a futures bet on which team you think will win the Super Bowl, NBA championship, or other league championship even before the season starts as well as during the course of the season.
You can also make futures bets on individual players, such as which player you pick to win the Heisman Trophy. Futures bets can pay off at very generous odds. But a big disadvantage is that you have less information to go on than if you wait to place your bet. The probability of winning can be influenced by many factors as the season progresses.
Prop Bets
A prop bet is a separate wager on a specific aspect of a game or player that is unrelated to the final score. These kinds of bets are a fun way for casual players to have additional action at a small cost. Major sportsbooks like FanDuel offer player and game props on virtually all sporting events but especially on the Super Bowl where bettors can have their pick of hundreds of props.
Live/In-Game Betting
The FanDuel live betting option allows you to wager on a game that is already in progress. Of course, with this fast-paced sports betting option, the line is continually readjusted to reflect the action that has taken place so far. But it allows bettors who missed the opportunity to wager before the game started to still have action on the game. Live betting also provides many opportunities to add to an earlier bet or hedge your bet if you no longer like your chances.
