Dubbs Anderson, former PGA Tour caddy and host of the Props Golf podcast, is back following an impressive betting performance at the John Deere Classic. Reaching for those “plus-money peaches,” Anderson offers his top Scottish Open picks, best bets, props, and sleepers this time around. The event starts the morning of Thursday, July 7 — so read up and get those picks in.

In addition to this betting preview, Anderson will release an episode late Friday night in which he will offer his favorite wagering opportunities heading into the weekend, so be sure to subscribe to Props Golf on Youtube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.

With that, here are Dubbs’ top Scottish Open picks and best bets across the golf betting markets.

Odds updated as of 10 a.m. ET on July 6.

Scottish Open Picks

The Scottish Open will be played at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. Min Woo Lee won this event in 2021, and he holds 125-1 longshot odds to claim the top spot this time around. Recent winners of this tournament also include Aaron Rai (2020), Bernd Wiesberger (2019), Brandon Stone (2018), and Rafael Cabrera-Bello (2017).

As Dubbs noted on the podcast, distance is going to be a factor this weekend with the short game as a needed compliment. The Rennaissance Club is a links-style golf course, meaning it’s built on a sandy coastland that offers a firmer playing surface. With that in mind, strokes gained around the green, strokes gained on approach, and strokes gained putting are the most important metrics to monitor heading into this event.

The following are abbreviated, edited excerpts of Anderson’s analysis from his latest episode of Props Golf, which he hosts twice weekly. For full analysis, you can view the full episode at the bottom of this article.

Will Zalatoris Outright Winner (+2800)

Best odds available: +2800 at Caesars Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: Zalatoris has yet to pick up a win on the PGA Tour, and Dubbs thinks this might be his chance. Pushing himself to the top of the leaderboard would also give Zalatoris a shot of momentum heading into the Open Championship next weekend. One thing to keep in mind: if it gets windy, a ball-striker like Zalatoris will have a nice advantage over the field.

Let’s consider Zalatoris’ PGA rankings up to this point:

  • 11th in strokes gained off the tee
  • 1st in strokes gained on approach
  • 69th in strokes gained around the green

It’s very hard to be the best in any of these categories, and with two stats in the top 20, count on Zalatoris to make a strong push for the win. The odds are more than generous at Caesars Sportsbook.

Cameron Smith Outright Winner (+2500)

Best odds available: +2500 at BetMGM Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: In the previous write-up, Dubbs had plenty of praise for Zalatoris being 1st in strokes gained on approach. Because of that, it’s no surprise to see Smith as another one of his Scottish Open picks in the outright market. After all, Smith ranks second in strokes gained on approach. To compliment that, Smith also has a great short game.

Smith ranks 28th in strokes gained around the green. To top it all off, he absolutely “runs the game with the short stick” as he is 14th in strokes gained putting. If the weekend turns into a battle around the greens, count on Smith to make a push for the outright win.

Justin Thomas Top 20 Finish (-110)

Best odds available: -110 at FanDuel Sportsbook

Dubbs’ Take: While this might not be a true “plus-money peach”, Dubbs still thinks this could be a juicy grape. After all, Justin Thomas has already placed in the top 10 at this event two times before, and he’ll look to do it again this weekend.

Another interesting note is that the harder this course plays, the better JT will play. This could be an important factor on this links-style golf course as the weekend progresses.

With all that in mind, Dubbs needs a slice of Thomas with those enticing -110 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.
