This edition of the NFL Player Prop series takes a look at Matthew Stafford.
The Rams are traveling to Detroit to take on the Lions in a game that projects to be a blowout. That being said, this is the first matchup between these two teams after swapping franchise QBs over the offseason.
Matthew Stafford had played his entire career with the Lions before getting shipped off to Los Angeles for Jared Goff and multiple first-round picks. I expect Stafford to get a warm welcome in Detroit, given how his career went and the fact that the decision to leave wasn’t his.
Matthew Stafford Over/Under 0.5 INT
Matthew Stafford’s interception prop is listed at .5 with -132 juice on the OVER. This is a bit peculiar to me given the situation, and it is why I lean toward the under. Stafford has thrown his fair share of picks in his career and just this season, throwing interceptions in 4 of 6 games this season. I do think that this situation is not one that yields a bunch of interception opportunities, though.
If you go and watch Rams games this season, Stafford is not being asked to be Superman or anything relatively close to this. Really, he is asked to be supercharged Jared Goff. Stafford is being given a lot of easy looks and pre-determined reads, but he is also capable of making that big throw or figuring out the coverage on the fly post-snap when called upon.
The Lions are terrible at generating pressure, and they are also really struggling in the secondary with injury issues and a lack of overall roster talent, to begin with. I expect the duo of Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods to have a route running showcase on Sunday afternoon, and I think that Stafford will just never have to throw the ball into tight, contested windows. Could he float a ball or have a ball-tipped? Sure, but if that’s how you want to bet interceptions props, just take the over every single time.
The NFL Player Prop Bet
Take the under 0.5 interceptions for Matthew Stafford on Sunday afternoon.
