Guardians vs. Red Sox Predictions

Aaron Civale will take the mound for the Cleveland Guardians, and he currently holds a 2.04 ERA across three starts and 17.2 innings pitched this season. Civale didn’t give up an earned run in two of those three starts, most recently tossing five shutout innings at the Minnesota Twins last Friday.

For his career, Civale has a 3.98 ERA across 370.2 total innings pitched. He was much better at home last season with a 3.80 ERA compared to 5.88 ERA on the road.

Matt Dermody will be the starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, and he will likely be used for an inning or two in the “opener” role before giving way to the bullpen.

The Red Sox have gone under the total in four of their last five games. There’s a reasonable chance that Civale limits their runs in Cleveland tonight, and the Guardians’ bullpen is very strong as well.

On the other side, the bullpen approach could pay off for Boston. Cleveland has a lack of power in their lineup, leading to the Guardians scoring the second-fewest runs in baseball this season.

Put it all together, and under 8.5 total runs looks like a strong bet.
