Arizona State and Oklahoma State are both entering this game undefeated. They both played easier matchups in Week 1, although only one of the two teams covered the spread. Oklahoma State struggled a bit against Central Michigan, while Arizona State dominated Northern Arizona.

This will be a massive step-up in competition for the Sun Devils. They’ll be traveling to Stillwater for a matchup against the 11th-ranked Cowboys. This game could quickly turn into an offensive shootout.

In this article, I’ll break down the odds for this game and you’ll find my favorite Arizona State vs. Oklahoma State predictions.

Arizona State’s Offense

I’m an Emory Jones guy in terms of college football. If you tailor an offense around him, he’s going to find plenty of success. Granted, he got an extremely easy matchup in Week 1, but that allowed Arizona State to get him going early this season.

Jones didn’t throw for any touchdowns, but he recorded a 72.2% completion percentage with 8.3 yards per attempt. More importantly, he added 48 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.

The key here is that Jones has someone to play off of him. Xazavian Valladay needed only 15 carries to record 116 yards and 2 touchdowns in that game. Daniyel Ngata also posted 60 rushing yards on 10 carries against Northern Arizona.

Arizona State has a few solid receiving options, but this is going to be a rushing offense. The trio above has tremendous potential, and they should be able to help control games.

This game will likely come down to how well Jones can threaten Oklahoma State’s defense with his arm to open up running lanes. I’m expecting the Cowboys to fill the box and force them to throw, but I also expect some big plays from the veteran quarterback.

Oklahoma State’s Defense

Truthfully, I don’t feel the need to discuss the Oklahoma State offense here because I think they’re going to be able to score on the majority of defenses in the NCAA. I don’t believe scoring will be their problem but rather how their defense plays.

Central Michigan posted 44 points against the Cowboys last week. They held Lew Nichols to 72 yards and 2 touchdowns on 26 carries in that game. They struggled a bit more against Myles Bailey, though, who posted 51 yards on only 9 carries.

The Chippewas dominated Oklahoma State through the air, though. Daniel Richardson threw for 424 yards with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception on 49 pass attempts. Central Michigan had 5 played with 5+ receptions and 4 of them posted 50+ yards. Overall, Jalen McGaughy posted 6 receptions for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Granted, 22 points for Central Michigan came in the fourth quarter when this game was relatively wrapped up. They flashed earlier in the game, though, and it looks as if there could be a few holes in this defense moving forward.

Arizona State vs. Oklahoma State Predictions

This is a game between two high-powered offenses. Oklahoma State should continue to find plenty of success, while I’m expecting Arizona State to surprise people throughout the season. It’s always difficult to slow down a player like Jones, and that should be the case in this game.

The difference between these two teams should be their defenses. I’m not expecting a successful game from the Sun Devils’ defense. They found plenty of success against Northern Arizona, but this is going to be a drastically more difficult matchup.

On the other side, I’m expecting Oklahoma State to play better defensively, specifically against an offense that relies heavily on the run. I don’t believe they’re going to be able to shut down the Arizona State offense, but I’d be shocked if we see another game where they allowed 40+ points.

It’s important to note that Oklahoma State playing at home will give them a massive edge in this game as well.
