Wyoming Online Betting

Last Updated: December 12, 2022

Lawmakers in Wyoming initially tried to legalize sports betting back in 2020, but HB225 fell in a pretty close vote. However, there was plenty of support for this initial bill to help get this industry legalized in 2021.

Lawmakers voted against the bill, though. However, one day later, lawmakers re-considered that same bill and officially approved it.  The sports betting industry in Wyoming officially launched on September 1, 2021, and there were two

options available. Wyoming will be issuing at least five online sports betting licenses, but there is no cap. One reason Wyoming has attracted some of the top operators is that the license costs just $100,000 for five years. In addition, the

renewal fee after five years is just $50,000, and this is one of the lowest rates in the U.S. The online legal sports betting age in Wyoming is just 18 years of age, which is younger than the traditional age of 21.

Wyoming Online Betting

Lawmakers in Wyoming initially tried to legalize sports betting back in 2020, but HB225 fell in a pretty close vote. However, there was plenty of support for this initial bill to help get this industry legalized in 2021.

Lawmakers voted against the bill, though. However, one day later, lawmakers re-considered that same bill and officially approved it.  The sports betting industry in Wyoming officially launched on September 1, 2021, and there were two

Wyoming Online Sports Betting

When online sports betting in Wyoming first launched on September 1, 2021, a pair of operators were ready to go. BetMGM and DraftKings were the first two online operators that received a license, and they are two of the biggest operators in the U.S.

Since the state law requires the Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission to hand out at least five licenses, some big-name companies can come into the state. For example, FanDuel Sportsbook was awarded a license back in November 2021, but it has not yet launched in Wyoming.

PointsBet Sportsbook became the latest online operator to receive a license in Wyoming as that took place at the beginning of February. It’s unclear when PointsBet is looking to go live, but it could potentially be around before FanDuel.

Barstool Sportsbook has also expressed interest to the Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission, but the Commission did not grant them a license. However, there is no cap on the number of online licenses available, so others could also look to break into the state.

Wyoming Retail Sportsbooks

The sports betting law in Wyoming only legalized online sports betting, and no language talked about retail sportsbooks being available. So as of February 2022, Wyoming does not offer retail sports betting, and it could remain this way for a long time.

If retail sports betting were to become an option, it would be up to the Native American tribes in Wyoming to offer it at their casinos. There are currently four tribal casinos in Wyoming, but just two tribes operate those.

Since each tribe can offer Class III Gaming, each could eventually look to open up a retail sportsbook. However, one factor keeping those tribes from doing so is that online operators do not need to be tethered to a casino to launch.

Wyoming is only the second state in the U.S. with sports betting without legal retail options.

Wyoming Legal Online Fantasy Sports Sites

When Governor Mark Gordon signed HB133 into law on April 6, 2021, daily fantasy sports were also made legal. States throughout the country seem to be taking a different approach to this gaming style, but Wyoming went ahead and specifically made it legal.

DFS operators have been accepting players from Wyoming for years, but it only recently became a legal option. Since there was never a rule-making DFS site illegal in Wyoming, the state can offer the most prominent sites.

DFS sites were made legal in Wyoming also means that the state regulates them, but the state added no additional rules. The legal age to play at a DFS site is just 18 years of age, the same as for sports betting.

Salary Cap DFS Sites In Wyoming

Salary cap DFS games continue to be the most popular, even though more options are now available. When it comes to sites that offer these games, DraftKings and FanDuel remain at the top of the list.

Yahoo and FantasyDraft are two other operators that focus on this type of DFS action. But there is a clear separation between these sites and the two most significant options. The player can find Salary cap and DFS games online, but the top options will have a mobile app available.

Since both DraftKings and FanDuel are also authorized to offer legal sports betting in Wyoming, the same mobile app will house both gaming options. When playing a salary cap site, customers must draft a roster of players and then enter that roster into paid contests to win money.

Fantasy Player Prop Games In Wyoming

For those who enjoy betting on props at the sportsbook, some DFS operators now offer player prop games. These player prop games are similar to traditional prop betting, but there is no wagering against the sportsbook.

Monkey Knife Fight is available in Wyoming, and it is a site that specializes in these types of games. Additionally, Bally’s agreed to purchase Monkey Knife Fight for $90 million, which should help the site become even more attractive to DFS players.

This site will cover all of the major professional sports. There will also be plenty of different styles of games available. In addition, for a small entry fee, players can make predictions on player props, and there is then a chance to receive a nice payout.

Best Ball Games In Wyoming

Underdog Fantasy is another DFS site that is legal and available in Wyoming, and this site has started to become famous throughout the U.S. The reason that Underdog has begun to gain popularity is that it offers a game called best ball.

There are both salary cap style games, player prop options, and Underdog, but this operator tends to do things differently. There is no salary cap required when drafting a roster, and the player prop games come in many different formats.

Best ball is a game that you can find at sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel, but it is what Underdog is known for. This site is available to residents of Wyoming that are at least 18 years of age, and a mobile app is also available.

Wyoming Legal Online Poker Sites

Online poker is another industry in the U.S. that has seen some growth over the last few years. Only a handful of sites offer online poker, and you won’t see any of those companies in Wyoming.

Online poker is not legal in Wyoming, but the bettor can play poker at the tribal casinos. The topic of online poker has never really come up with lawmakers in this state. It also likely won’t be an issue anytime soon.

Wyoming would have the lowest population in the U.S., creating unique challenges if lawmakers legalize the industry. Online poker sites work well with plenty of potential customers, but that wouldn’t be the case here.

Wyoming Legal Online Casino Sites

Wyoming didn’t even introduce a state lottery until 2013, and there are no commercial casinos in the state. These two factors make it highly unlikely that online casino gambling will ever become an option.

Native American tribes offer casino gambling at four locations throughout the state, but that’s on a minimal scale. Without a commercial casino pushing for online casino gambling, don’t expect to see lawmakers working hard to get this done in the future.

The Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission will study online casino gambling, but it’s unclear if anything will come from that. However, online sports betting success could ultimately push lawmakers to explore additional online gambling options.

How Do I Know That Online Gambling Sites In Wyoming Are Fair?

The best way to know that the online gambling sites in Wyoming are fair is to give them a try. You should quickly be able to tell if the sites are honest or not, and Wyoming will have some of the best options available.

The sites in Wyoming want to be fair because they risk losing out on customers if they are not posting fair betting odds or lines. Therefore, each site will be competing with the other sites to come up with the best odds to attract the most wagers.

Who Regulates Legal Online Sportsbooks In Wyoming?

The Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission will regulate and oversee the online sports betting industry. This Commission was already in place before sports betting became a legal option. It became an additional task for that group.

When companies apply for an online sports betting license, the Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission reviews those applications and determines if the Commission should grant a license. State law requires at least five online sports betting licenses to be made available.

Why Should I Trust Legal Online Sportsbooks?

Since all of the online sportsbooks in Wyoming have to hold a license, you should trust each of them. Not only that, but Wyoming is only accepting license applications from online operators established in other parts of the country.

As long as you are betting online at a legal sportsbook in Wyoming, you are good to trust that specific site.

How Do I Get Paid If I Win?

If you win any money while gambling online in the state of Wyoming, then you will be getting paid from that specific site. Wyoming will not control any of the money that flows in either direction besides collecting tax revenue.

All online sportsbooks in Wyoming will have their banking departments with unique options. Choose the best option that works the best for you and receive your winnings from the site.
