Ohio vs. Toledo Predictions
This is an interesting game to handicap. Ohio will be without starting QB Kurtis Rourke. Toledo could be in a similar position, as starting QB Dequan Finn is questionable.
Ohio won 38-14 last week against Bowling Green despite Rourke’s absence. The Bobcats leaned heavily on defense and their rushing attack to notch that victory. However, it remains to be seen what backup QB CJ Harris is able to do with the game on the line.
Even though Toledo is limping into this matchup after suffering two straight losses, the Rockets boast the better defense of these two sides: ranking 37th in the country in total defense, 23rd in yards per play, 30th in opponent third down percentage, and 39th in sack percentage. There’s a decent chance Toledo’s defense will be able to slow down a one-dimension Ohio offense with Rourke not in the mix.
On the other hand, Ohio’s defense can be beaten. The Bobcats rank 110th in opponent completion percentage, 129th in pass defense, 79th in opponent yards per rush, and 87th in scoring defense. If Finn plays, then Toledo has a playmaker with the ability to carve up the Ohio defense. If he doesn’t play, then Tucker Gleason has proven himself capable as a dual-threat QB who has thrown for 300+ yards in two of his last three games.
Give me the better defense and a balanced offense with this short spread.
