Illinois vs. Syracuse Predictions

Illinois checks into this home contest ranked No. 16 in the country. The Fighting Illini have one loss on the season against a solid Virginia team, but they picked up a quality win over UCLA on top of winning four contests as a 25+ point favorite.

On the other hand, Syracuse has not lived up to its reputation in this young season. The Orange have lost three games this season to St. John’s, Colgate, and Bryant. Now they’ll try to pick themselves up on the road against the toughest competition they’ve seen this season.

It’s early, but Illinois has been an excellent shooting team up to this point. The Fighting Illini rank 13th in the country in shooting efficiency and fifth with an effective field goal rate of 59.5%. Illinois can also shoot from deep, holding a 37.7% rate from behind the arc. That will come in handy against Syracuse’s patented 2-3 zone that hasn’t noticed much success so far in 2022.

Illinois was able to cruise to a 9-point win against a good UCLA team earlier this season, and the Fighting Illini should shoot their way to a 13+ point home victory over a discombobulated Syracuse team.
