DraftKings NFL Picks: Bet No. 1
The Season Opener couldn’t be better. We have the reigning champs, the LA Rams hosting one of the league’s most exciting teams in the Buffalo Bills at SoFi Stadium. Tough matchup, but I think I’ve found an edge.
You’ll notice I like to use statistics to support my decisions, everyone knows it’s a challenge to beat the oddsmakers on average, so it pays to dig into some non-traditional stats. After browsing some sources, I’ve found some notable stats on Pro Football Reference that makes me lean toward the Buffalo Bills.
DraftKings NFL Picks: TNF Week 1
Yeah yeah, it’s only 5 bucks, but this serves as our qualifying wager to unlock $200 in free bets. Those bonuses are listed as eight $25 bonus plays, and we’ll be using those in this column for Sunday of Week 1.
- Bet: Bills -2
- Odds: -110 at DraftKings
- Amount: $5 to win $9.54
Looking at the Rams’ home/away offensive performance last year, there’s a difference in rushing, sacks, and first downs when LA plays at home. Surprisingly, the Rams’ offense was better on the road in the 2021-2022 season, despite Matthew Stafford being more efficient at home.
Take: Stafford having a 68% completion rate and 108 passer rating is less sustainable. Also, the Rams slacking in the running game could cut into that as LA will have a difficult time limiting third down yardage to gain, thus leaving the Rams to struggle to achieve first downs.
On the other hand, the Bills’ rushing performance is nearly the same per attempt with no dramatic difference in rushing touchdown rations on the home and road. It seems that Josh Allen likes to put on a show when he travels, as his completion rate is 7% higher with more touchdowns, first downs, and a higher QBR rate on the road last season.
Take: The Bills show up ready to score on the ground or through the air.
