Will DJ Uiagalelei Step Up (Again)?

The Cade Klubnik replacing DJ Uiagalelei rumors need to be put to bed. Uiagalelei was the catalyst in that shootout on the road against Wake Forest, as he threw for 371 yards, five touchdowns, and added 52 yards on the ground. Besides one large run by RB Will Shipley, the run game was ineffective, and the defense was torched all day. This was easily his best performance since that game against Notre Dame in 2020 and a significant boost of confidence going into a matchup against a top 10 team.

He’s going to be seeing a much tougher defensive test this week against NC State. The Wolfpack defense is ranked 25th in passing yards allowed per game and already has seven interceptions this season.

Can NC State Win This Massive Road Game?

NC State has entered the top 10 for the first time in nearly two decades. The offense isn’t going to light up the scoreboard, but the offensive line has been great, allowing just four sacks this year so the ball can be moved effectively.

They know Devin Leary’s faults and aren’t expecting the offense to put up big numbers as they’ve managed to win a couple of games, including the 21-20 win against East Carolina win, that they ultimately should have lost.

The bread and butter of this team is the defense featuring Tyler Baker-Williams and Aydan White, who have two picks each. They’re also top 15 in points allowed, total yards, and takeaways.

Clemson vs. NC State Prediction

What Uiagalelei and Shipley did against Wake Forest will not happen this week. Wake Forest is at the bottom of the ACC in defense, while NC State is at the top. Enormous credit goes to Shipley as he’s been able to make plays even with sub-par run blocking, but he’ll see a brick wall this week that will also put pressure on DJU in the pocket.

On the other side, Leary is not a strong passer, and he will have trouble pushing the ball against this very consistent Clemson defense.

This game is going to be in the rain-soaked atmosphere of Hurricane Ian. It’ll be wet, high winds, and passing will be at a minimum. In any circumstance, the Over 40 is a smash, but in these conditions, it won’t be conducive to offensive production, especially with two really good defenses.
