Let’s head into the final week of the preseason with our Vikings vs. Broncos predictions for Saturday, Aug. 27.
We shouldn’t expect any marquee players from either side of the field, but there are still roster issues and competition at the skills positions that could be determined in this game. Let’s take a look at the odds to formulate our Vikings vs. Broncos predictions for NFL preseason Week 3.

- The Broncos lost their second preseason game 42-14 at Buffalo.
- Minnesota HC Kevin O’Connell is 0-2 in the preseason with the Vikings.
- Denver HC Nathaniel Hackett is 1-1 in the preseason with the Broncos
- Underdogs are 53.7% against the spread in the NFL preseason in the previous ten years.
- As of Friday morning, DraftKings reports that 67% of tickets are on the Broncos against the spread, but 57% of the money is on the Vikings.

Denver’s Backup QB Battle
Despite Russell Wilson learning a new offense, head coach Nathaniel Hackett announced that he would sit the preseason finale. Brett Rypien will get the start and play the first half, while Josh Johnson will come in for the second as these two battle for the backup role. It’s a switch from how the order has been. Rypien has performed better and Hackett said he deserved this shot.

The Broncos received some excellent news this week that WR KJ Hamler has been cleared after suffering an ACL tear and hip injury in Week 3 last year. The Broncos have announced he will play in this game and should replace Tim Patrick who will miss this season after also suffering an ACL tear in training camp.
No Starters For Minnesota (Again)
Kirk Cousins says he doesn’t expect to play in the preseason finale, meaning he won’t see the field for the entire preseason. Don’t expect other starters like Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson to see game action either.

Once again, Kellen Mond and Sean Mannion will split the QB snaps as the two battle for the backup spot. After a great first game, some thought the former 2021 third-round pick (Mond) could snag the backup job, but he struggled last week with two picks.
Vikings vs. Broncos Predictions
The Vikings under the new coaching staff have not looked good so far with an awful defensive effort against the Raiders, then were abysmal on offense last week against San Fransisco.
Denver hasn’t been much better, but they have the better roster, so in a pick ’em at home, go with where the heavy action is with the Broncos, but I would put half a unit on it at best. This is preseason after all.
Prediction 1: Broncos +1 | -110 at DraftKings Sportsbook
There will be a competition for the backup quarterback role, so I expect all of them to be at their best. We’ve seen both defenses get rolled on during the preseason, so the Over 35.5 is an easy one to take.
Prediction 2: Over 35.5 total points | -110 at DraftKings Sportsbook
