The future of the world belongs to the youth, so the aphorism goes. And that is especially true in the NFL, where there is a wave of good young starting quarterbacks taking the center stage every week. We’ll highlight a few of those while looking at the best quarterback prop bets for NFL Week 3.
Zach Wilson – Under 232.5 Passing Yards
There is much to like about Zach Wilson’s future. He is clearly a gifted quarterback. But there is also much skepticism to have about his present. He just threw four interceptions against a good Patriots defense, and now he is about to take on a great Broncos secondary.
Even with Ronald Darby on the shelf, the Broncos’ defensive backfield is one of the best in football. With Von Miller providing the pressure, tight coverage being applied by Kyle Fuller and Patrick Surtain II, Wilson struggles to get to 200 yards.
Take the under.
Mac Jones – Under 259.5 Passing Yards
Mac Jones is the opposite of Wilson. He has less raw talent but already plays like a polished NFL starter in his decisions. Most of it is just playing within the New England offense, which doesn’t have him trying too many downfield risks.
It’s working, and the Patriots are coming off a win. But he will continue to be conservative in Sunday’s game against New Orleans, which will keep his passing yards below 250 for the week. As with the Jets game, the key against the Saints is no turnovers and take what the defense gives you, which won’t be a lot.
Again, take the under.
Same Game Parlay Possibility
Patrick Mahomes – Over 310.5 Passing Yards
We’re going to see this quarterback matchup at least twice a year for the next decade, and it’s never going to get boring, especially if Kansas City’s defense plays as it did against the Ravens.
We know what Patrick Mahomes will do. He threw for 337 yards against a good Browns defense, then followed that up with 343 yards against the Ravens. Running the football is tough for K.C, so look for Mahomes to sling it all over the field and get close to another 350 yards.
He goes over.
Justin Herbert – Over 292.5 Passing Yards
Since you know this game is going to be a shootout, why not parlay the just-turned 26-year-old Mahomes with the 23-year-old Herbert?
For his young career, Herbert is averaging 294 passing yards per game, and that includes going for 337 and 338 in his two games this season. In two career games against the Chiefs, he’s thrown for 311 and 302.
He’s gone over 300 yards in 10 of his 17 career starts, and there is no reason to think that he won’t do it again this week in Kansas City. Baker Mayfield threw for over 300 yards in Week 1, and that was with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt seeing their usual workloads on the ground.
In what looks to be a 38-34 type of game, yards through the air will be aplenty.
Hammer this over.
