Hits & Misses: The Yankees waited out Blue Jays starter Alek Manoah, then bruised the Toronto bullpen to earn a 9-1 victory Tuesday as +123 underdogs. Manoah allowed one run on three hits in six innings, but New York starter Jameson Taillon was able to match him, allowing one run on five hits in six frames. When Manoah was pulled, the Yankees immediately broke through with a six-run seventh to take command. The Yankees were underdogs Tuesday for the first time during the 11-game win streak. They were favorites of -170 or better in the first nine victories, which came against teams with losing records (Cleveland, Baltimore and Kansas City). The Yankees have the longest win streak in baseball this season, and it is the team’s longest winning streak since taking 13 in a row last August. Tuesday’s win extended the Yankees’ lead to 3.5 games in the AL East over Toronto.
Cortes vs Blue Jays: The left-hander has been dominant for the Yankees this season, allowing only three earned runs in 20.2 innings, with 28 strikeouts and just three walks. Despite stellar stats, Cortes is officially only 1-0 with three no-decisions. (The Yankees won three of his four starts, and Cortes didn’t allow a run in the lone defeat.) One of the no-decisions came against Toronto on April 12, when Cortes pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and no walks in a 4-0 Yankees victory. He made only one start against the Blue Jays last season, allowing two runs in six innings in a 6-4 defeat.
Key injuries: LF Joey Gallo (groin) missed a third straight game Tuesday and is listed as questionable for Wednesday.

Hits & Misses: The Blue Jays are scuffling a bit, with a 5-5 record in their last 10 games, and after Tuesday’s loss, Toronto has a negative run differential for the season (-8). Despite that, the Blue Jays still have the fourth-best record in the AL. Toronto’s bullpen wasted a fine effort by Manoah on Tuesday, as Austin Cimber and Julian Merryweather combined to allow six runs (four earned) while recording only one out in the seventh inning. Blue Jays relievers rank 24th in team ERA (4.05), according to FanGraphs.
Kikuchi vs Yankees: The left-hander has had a rough start to the season, allowing 12 runs (nine earned) in only 14.2 innings, with 13 strikeouts and 13 walks. Kikuchi is 0-1, but the Blue Jays have lost all four of his starts, including the April 12 game in which he opposed Cortes and the Yankees. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 3.1 innings in New York’s 4-0 victory. His longest outing this season is five innings against Boston on April 19; otherwise, he hasn’t made it out of the fourth inning. Kikuchi left Seattle to sign a three-year, $36 million deal with the Blue Jays in the offseason.
Key injuries: RF Teoscar Hernandez (oblique) is on a rehab assignment at Class-A Dunedin and is not expected to return to the Blue Jays until Thursday. RP Tayler Saucedo is on the 10-day injured list with right hip discomfort.
