D’Eriq King – QB – Miami FL: OVER 38.5 Rushing Yards
The above picture was taken at the Cheez-It Bowl last December. That brings up another interesting prop question: the next time I eat Cheez-its, will I stop over or under 38.5?
King and the Hurricanes had a tough time against Alabama in the season-opener. We can’t really hold that against him, right? King only had 10 rushing yards on nine carries in that game. I’m pretty sure even Lamar Jackson would have trouble running against Alabama, so it’s probably best to throw that stat-line out the window.
The Miami QB bounced back nicely with 19 carries for 79 yards against Appalachian State last Saturday. That’s more like it!
It’s pretty crazy that King had 19 carries in that game. Let that sink in. Do you think King can top 38 rushing yards when getting 15-20 carries? The answer should be a resounding “yes”.
King will square off against Michigan State this Saturday, and the Spartans are no stranger to letting QBs run the ball. Last week, Youngstown State QB Demeatric Crenshaw ran for 69 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown against MSU. King should be able to at least replicate those numbers and fly over this total.
Braxton Burmeister – QB – Virginia Tech: OVER 32.5 Rushing Yards
Burmeister will take on West Virginia, who has a pretty solid run defense. However, the Mountaineers aren’t good enough to completely stifle the ground game of this Virginia Tech QB.
In two games this season, Burmeister has piled up 42 and 52 ground yards respectively. He also ran past this 32.5 yard total in four of five games last year. The only time he failed to top 36 rushing yards came against Clemson in 2020, who had one of the best defenses in the country.
In other words, Burmeister should be able to get his usual 35-50 rushing yards as long as he’s not playing an elite defense. West Virginia’s defense is not elite. Therefore, Burmeister should get his ground yardage.
Kevin Marks – RB – Buffalo: OVER 77.5 Rushing Yards
Dating back to last season, Marks exceeded this total in seven of nine games. I honestly believe his over/under should be somewhere closer to 100 yards this week.
Buffalo checks in as 13 point underdogs in this matchup, so game flow is a concern. However, take note that Marks saw 21 carries for 85 yards despite falling behind at Nebraska last Saturday. The Huskers won that game 28-3, and Marks still got his touches on the ground. That definitely makes me feel better about this prop.
Coastal Carolina has a quick-strike offense that could push the pace of this game. That means more plays for Buffalo with potentially more rushing attempts for Marks. Coastal Carolina was mediocre against the run last season, allowing 4.4 yards per carry. In two games this season, they have allowed each team to have a 100+ yard rusher. That’s saying a lot considering Coastal faced lowly Kansas and the Citadel.
Confidently take Marks over this…well, mark.
More College Football Props To Consider
Adrian Martinez (QB – NEB) OVER 184.5 Passing Yards. Martinez can be erratic at times. That especially holds true when he’s facing a quality defense. However, the Huskers are listed as 22.5 point underdogs at Oklahoma. That means they should be passing early and often to try and keep pace with the Sooners. On top of that, we aren’t sure if OU has a quality defense. Oklahoma gave up 296 passing yards to Tulane QB Michael Pratt in the season-opener. We have reason to believe that Martinez will exceed this total, even if he needs garbage time to do it.
Zeb Noland (QB – SCAR) UNDER 11 Fantasy Points. Noalnd is facing a Georgia defense that hasn’t allowed a touchdown through two games this season. There’s a chance he doesn’t even see all the snaps, as regular starter Luke Doty could see some action. Add it all up, and Noland appears to be a safe bet to the under.
