Hall Of Fame Game Trends
Let’s take a look at some relevant betting trends from the Hall of Fame Game and NFL preseason in general:
- Since 2010, the HOF Game has gone Under 30.5 points 7-of-9 times.
- Last year’s HOF Game finished 16-3 as the Steelers beat the Cowboys.
- Underdogs are 53.5% against the spread in the NFL preseason over the last ten years.
- For his career, Jaguars HC Doug Pederson is 8-8 straight up in the preseason.
- Raiders HC Josh McDaniels is 2-6 straight up in the preseason as a head coach.
No QB Lawrence For Jaguars
There’s a good chance your eyes hovered to catch a glimpse of the tweet below. It’s okay, that tweet is there for a reason. It holds significant information that impacts the Raiders vs. Jaguars odds. Go ahead and read it.
#Jaguars coach Doug Pederson announced that QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne won't play in the Hall of Fame game on Thursday. Expect the #Raiders to be on the same page with several starters watching from the sidelines.

So the Jags’ top quarterback and running back will be sidelined for the entire game. What that tweet fails to mention is that backup QB C.J. Beathard and backup RB James Robinson (still recovering from Achilles injury) are out as well.
Jake Luton and Kyle Sloter will handle signal-caller duties while Ryquell Armstead and Snoop Conner will line up at running back for Jacksonville.
Who Will Start For The Raiders?
We don’t have a ton of news out of the Raiders camp at the time this article was constructed (early Wednesday morning). There’s a chance we’ll get some confirmation on the starters prior to game time, so keep your eye on Twitter but don’t hold your breath.
Unless breaking news says otherwise, there’s a chance that starters Derek Carr, Davante Adams, and Josh Jacobs will see at least one series. While the odds may be against that notion, it’s more than we can say for Jacksonville’s key offensive playmakers.
It's hard to find an edge in something like the Hall of Fame game, but @DaRealPapaBear has an angle he likes with the Raiders coach/QB situation in this showcase, on Props Arizona presented by @BetfredSports with @unpluggeddoug. #ad

Looking beyond that, there’s actually some NFL experience among Las Vegas backup quarterbacks. We aren’t sure how much time Nick Mullens will see under center, but he has 20 pro football games under his belt, including an outing against the Raiders (filling in for Baker Mayfield and the Browns) last December. The other backup QB Jarrett Stidham knows McDaniels’ playbook from their time in New England. That could certainly help.
Raiders vs. Jaguars Predictions
Don’t forget about the weather forecast. There’s a decent chance we’ll see some rain in this game. That, plus the aforementioned trends, has me looking towards Under 30.5 total points. The Jaguars not having their top two quarterbacks helps as well. There’s a decent amount of money coming in on the Under, as DraftKings reports 83% of the handle flowing that way. I’m in agreement with that lump of cheddar.
Prediction 1: Under 30.5 | -110 at Caesars Sportsbook
When making a prediction on the side, I’m looking towards the Raiders -140 moneyline. To clarify, this is a bet for peanuts. Make a pizza bet with your buddy for a little skin on the game. I mean, it’s the preseason we are talking about! Give me the moneyline, as I don’t want to get snakebitten by the spread in a low-scoring game.
Raiders’ head coach Josh McDaniels is from Canton, OH. I’m sure you’ll hear about it at least three dozen times on the broadcast. Does that narrative mean anything? Maybe not. Does he have more motivation to pull out a win? Nobody knows. Do the Raiders have a slight edge here? Perhaps.
I think the quarterback depth could be the key here. Maybe McDaniels wants to make his father proud by pulling out a win in his old stomping grounds. Neither is going to hurt the Raiders’ cause.
Prediction 2: Raiders moneyline | -140 at Caesars Sportsbook
