Week 8 Ladders: Chiefs/Commanders MNF Predictions
We’ve got a great Monday Night Football game on the board for Week 8. Let’s dive in!
Marcus Mariota Rushing Yards Ladder
Mariota will draw his third start of the season for the injured Jayden Daniels. He’s performed well in his limited opportunities thus far. He’s totaled 94 yards and 1 touchdown on 10 carries this season.
The veteran quarterback has been inconsistent on the ground this season, but the upside is incredible. He posted 40 yards on 6 carries in his first start before dialing it back with 20 yards on 2 carries in his second. He saw limited snaps after Daniel’s injury last week, posting 34 yards on only 2 carries.
The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled against mobile quarterbacks this season. They’re giving up the sixth-most rushing yards (26.7) per game to opposing QBs. The Chiefs are also allowing the fourth-most rush attempts (6) per game to the position.
This is an interesting spot for Mariota because of the potential game script. He’s a player who will use his legs early in the game, specifically on designed runs. There isn’t truly a way to eliminate his rushing potential.
If Kansas City takes an early lead or goes up by multiple scores, Mariota can use his legs on scrambles. If the game stays close, he’ll find designed runs. I do believe the ideal situation would be a competitive game, as that’s where he does most of his damage. It isn’t a major issue if this game gets out of hand, though.
Where to Bet: Marcus Mariota 30+ rushing yards (-104) through 50+ rushing yards (+370) | Ladder at FanDuel Sportsbook
Rashee Rice Receptions Ladder
Rice missed the Kansas City Chiefs’ first six games due to suspension. He was practicing throughout training camp and the season, meaning there wasn’t likely to be any major adjustment period. That wasn’t fully the case in his first game back, though.
The star wide receiver only ran 19 routes against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. Granted, it was the second-most of their receivers, but it was drastically less than Xavier Worthy (30), who led the team. It’s fair to assume Rice’s role in the offense will continue to grow as he gets adjusted to live games.
Although he only ran 19 routes, he saw a ridiculous 9 targets. He turned those into 7 receptions for 42 yards and 2 touchdowns. It’s also important to note that this game was a blowout, which also limited Rice’s overall opportunities.
The biggest key to his receptions is the way Kansas City was getting him the ball. He posted an absurdly low 2.0 aDOT on those 9 targets. He also didn’t see a single target more than 10 yards down the field. He also had 3 receptions behind the line of scrimmage.
It’s clear the Chiefs are going to do what they can to get the ball into Rice’s hands quickly. Washington’s struggled against receivers at times this season, and we should see Kansas City pepper their star receiver with easy targets for the second consecutive week.
Where to Bet: Rashee Rice 6+ receptions (-154) through 9+ receptions (+370) | Ladder at FanDuel Sportsbook
