NFL Quarterback Injuries
Brock Purdy, 49ers, QUESTIONABLE (toe)
Purdy once again practiced in limited fashion all week, and as per Friday reports, will serve as the No. 2 quarterback Sunday against the Rams in a best-case scenario.
That tees up a sixth consecutive start for Mac Jones, who bounced back from back-to-back sub-200-yard efforts in Week 9 against the Giants, throwing for 235 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Jones has completed 67.6% of his passes during his current starting tenure while generating a 6:4 TD:INT.
C.J. Stroud, Texans, OUT (concussion)
Stroud didn’t practice this week after exiting the Week 9 loss to the Broncos early due to a concussion that he suffered on a hit following a scramble. Davis Mills, who handled emergency duty in that contest and completed 17 of 30 passes for 137 yards while adding seven rushing yards on two carries, will start Sunday versus the Jaguars.
While he hasn’t seen much regular-season action the last two-plus seasons, Mills got plenty of starting experience over his first two seasons back in 2021 and 2022, completing 63.6% of his passes for 5,782 yards with a 33:25 TD:INT while adding 152 rushing yards and another two scores over 28 games.
Jayden Daniels, Commanders, OUT (elbow)
Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow in Week 9 against the Seahawks, and although he won’t need surgery, he’s going to miss multiple games.
That means Marcus Mariota, who’s completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 576 yards with a 4:3 TD:INT and rushed 16 times for 88 yards and another score in his three starts to date this season, will be under center again beginning with Sunday’s Week 10 matchup against the Lions, albeit without top receiver Terry McLaurin (quadriceps).
Other notable short-term QB injuries to monitor: Kyler Murray, ARI, OUT (IR, foot)
Fantasy Football Running Back Injuries
D’Andre Swift, Bears, QUESTIONABLE (groin)
Swift appeared to be all clear to return from a one-game absence due to a groin injury after practicing in full Thursday, but he then missed Friday’s session altogether. The reasons cited were the groin injury in addition to “personal,” which puts at least an element of doubt into his availability.
If Swift ultimately sits out a second straight game, then Kyle Monangai, who racked up 176 rushing yards and 22 receiving yards in the wild Week 9 win over the Bengals, will once again have control of Chicago’s backfield against a Giants defense last in the league in both second-level and open-field yards per carry surrendered.
Rhamondre Stevenson, Patriots, OUT (toe)
Stevenson once again missed practice all week and has been officially ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers. In his absence during the Week 9 win over the Falcons, TreVeyon Henderson took on the lead role and rushed 14 times for 55 yards while also recording four receptions for 32 yards on six targets.
However, Terrell Jennings contributed 11 carries for 35 yards and a TD while also posting a 1-9-0 receiving line, and he’s expected to have a solid No. 2 role again versus Tampa Bay.
Aaron Jones, Vikings, QUESTIONABLE (shoulder/toe)
Jones was in the midst of his best game of the season in Week 9 against the Lions when he was forced to exit with his pair of injuries. The veteran back had rushed nine times for 78 yards and added a 2-20-0 receiving line, and this week, he was able to put in limited practices both Thursday and Friday.
While Jones told reporters Friday he was feeling good, his availability may come down to pregame warmups. Jordan Mason, who’s rushed for at least 52 yards in five of the six games in which he’s logged double-digit carries, would take on lead-back duties if Jones is sidelined.
Other notable short-term RB injuries to monitor: Alvin Kamara, Saints QUESTIONABLE (ankle); Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder)
NFL DFS Injuries: Wide Receivers
Brian Thomas, Jr., Jaguars, OUT (ankle)
Thomas was the second Jaguars receiver to suffer an injury of note in a matter of days last Sunday when he exited a Week 9 overtime win against the Raiders with an ankle issue.
That was preceded by Travis Hunter’s non-contact knee injury the Thursday before that contest, and with both players unavailable for Sunday’s divisional clash against the Texans, new trade acquisition Jakobi Meyers and Dyami Brown are set to work as Trevor Lawrence’s top two receivers, while Parker Washington operates as a No. 3 option or splits snaps with one of the top duo.
The extent of Meyers’ grasp of the Jaguars’ playbook remains to be seen, but he’s expected to have to shoulder a hefty snap count due to the thin nature of the team’s receiver corps.
Garrett Wilson, Jets, QUESTIONABLE (knee)
Wilson missed the last two games before the Jets’ Week 9 bye due to his knee injury, and even though he still had to practice in limited fashion Wednesday and Thursday, he was able to work back to a full practice Friday and is expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Browns.
If Wilson does indeed suit up, he’ll slide back into his customary No. 1 role, although his return will come against a stingy Cleveland defense and with uncertainty as to whether it will be Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor throwing him the ball.
Tetairoa McMillan, Panthers, QUESTIONABLE (hamstring)
McMillan suffered his hamstring injury in Friday’s practice, when he was listed as limited, as he’d participated in full over the first two sessions of the week. Head coach Dave Canales conceded there was concern about the injury, and if the rookie ultimately can’t push through and play Sunday, Xavier Legette will be the first man up in terms of helping absorb the 7.7 targets per game McMillan leaves behind.
Jalen Coker and Jimmy Horn would also bump up a notch on the depth chart behind Legette against a Saints defense tied for the fourth-most TD receptions surrendered to WRs (11).
Other notable short-term WR injuries to monitor: Ricky Pearsall, 49ers, OUT (knee); Terry McLaurin, Commanders, OUT (quadriceps); Kayshon Boutte, Patriots, OUT (hamstring); Chris Godwin, Buccaneers, OUT (lower leg); Tory Horton, Seahawks, DOUBTFUL (groin); Joshua Palmer, Bills, QUESTIONABLE (knee); Cooper Kupp, Seahawks, QUESTIONABLE (heel/hamstring); Matthew Golden, Packers, QUESTIONABLE (shoulder); Christian Watson, Packers, QUESTIONABLE (knee); Dontayvion Wicks, Packers, QUESTIONABLE (calf)
Tight End Injuries This Week
Harold Fannin Jr., Browns, QUESTIONABLE (hamstring)
Fannin missed Thursday’s practice altogether before managing to return in limited fashion Friday. While his participation in some capacity is encouraging, there’s no certainty heading into the weekend as to Fannin’s availability for Sunday’s game against the Jets.
If the rookie, who’s averaging 6.4 targets per game, is ultimately sidelined, David Njoku, who’s averaging 5.9 targets per contest in his own right, would be set for even more work as the clear top pass-catching option at the position.
Other notable short-term TE injuries to monitor: Josh Oliver, Vikings, OUT (foot); AJ Barner, Seahawks, QUESTIONABLE (calf);
