Best NBA First Basket Predictions Today: Sunday, November 9

Every day during the NBA regular season and playoffs, we run through our favorite first basket bets and predictions of the night.

Anthony Edwards First Basket Scorer

Edwards has established himself as one of the best players in the league over the past two seasons. He’s posted seventh-place MVP finishes in back-to-back campaigns, and he’s led the Timberwolves to two straight Western Conference Finals. The team has been unable to get over the hump in those series, but their outlook remains extremely bright.

Edwards has missed some time this season due to injury, but he has looked as good as ever when he’s been in the lineup. He’s shooting 51.2% from the field and 50.0% from 3-point range, and he’s averaged 25.8 points in just 26.4 minutes per game. Edwards had 37 points in just 26 minutes in a blowout win over the Jazz in his last outing, so he seems fully recovered from the hamstring injury that caused him to miss four games.

Edwards has yet to score first for the Timberwolves this season, but it hasn’t been due to a lack of volume. He’s averaged 1.2 of the team’s first 3.0 shot attempts when he’s been in the lineup, which is easily the top mark on the squad. Julius Randle has taken the first shot at the highest frequency on the Timberwolves (33%), but Edwards is No. 2 (20%).

The Timberwolves draw a strong matchup Sunday vs. the Kings. Domantas Sabonis is not particularly good at tip-offs, and Sacramento has won just one of its first nine tips this season. They’ve only scored first in two of nine outings, while Minnesota is above 50% in both areas.

Add it all up, and Edwards stands out as an excellent buy-low option. He’s as low as +418 at certain locations, so getting him at +650 feels like a tremendous value.

Pick: Anthony Edwards First Basket Scorer (+650)

Draymond Green First Basket Scorer

The Warriors got off to an excellent start this season, but losses in four of their past five games have pulled them back to .500 for the year. They suffered a 25-point loss to the Nuggets in their last outing – their first game in the NBA Cup – and six of their next seven games will come on the road.

Sunday’s game vs. the Pacers is the lone exception. They’ll square off in San Francisco, making this a game the Warriors need to have. The Pacers are also just 1-8 to start the year while dealing with a host of injuries, so it’s an excellent opportunity to pick up a win before a difficult road trip.

The Pacers have also been a below-average squad from a first-basket standpoint. They’ve won the tip in just 33% of their games this season, while the Warriors are at 50%. Golden State has also scored first at a higher frequency, and they’ve averaged fewer shot attempts for their first field goal.

Green isn’t exactly known for his offensive prowess, but he’s been surprisingly active to start games this season. He’s scored the Warriors’ first basket in four of his nine outings, and he’s averaged 1.11 of the team’s first 3.0 shot attempts. Green’s field goal and 3-point percentages are also way up this season, so he has some sneaky upside at +950.

Pick: Draymond Green First Basket Scorer (+950)
