Underdog has released its MLBSZN selections for the 2025 season, and we’re all over our favorite picks.
There are plenty of options to choose from including home run projections, stolen base leaders, strikeout totals, and even higher or lower ERA numbers.
Below I’ll break down my top three picks for the upcoming 2025 season, but make sure to head over to Underdog to check out the entire selection.
Underdog MLBSZN Picks – 2025 Season-Long Predictions
Let’s dive in to all the analysis around my top three MLBSZN picks at Underdog.
Aaron Judge Lower Than 49.5 Home Runs
Might as well start off with the most controversial pick, right? I’m even from New York and I’m going with Judge to have a down year.
This all based off the fact that somehow Judge has been able to have historic regular season performances year after year, but can’t ever seem to put it together in the postseason, with 2024 being one of his worst showings in the midst of his prime. His slashline of .188/.316/.816 looked comparable to someone who needs a trip back to the minors.
Maybe that’s what the offseason is for him? Decompress and get ready for another great regular season. But without Juan Soto this year, do teams really have any excuse to pitch to Judge? I would rather pitch to Giancarlo Stanton any day of the week considering that statline we mentioned earlier for Judge doesn’t look that much different for Stanton (.233/.298/.773).
It is actually more enticing to give newly acquired Cody Bellinger some love in the ever-so-batter-friendly Yankee Stadium. Maybe even take a shot at Paul Goldschmidt to see some more pitches to hit. But again, I would much rather take my chances with these low level threats behind Judge than get burned by him if he hits full god mode as he has the past few seasons.

Kyle Schwarber Higher Than 3.5 Multi-Home Run Games
I bet you were expecting some boring K prop or maybe some stolen bases total. Nope, we’re going with Schwarber to have at least four games where he hits two or more home runs. Last season, he had a whopping six games where he surpassed this number, and he even hit three home runs twice for a total of 14 long balls across those six games.
Now this is a very speculative pick, but hear me out. Nobody… and I mean nobody likes pitching to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper. Unfortunately, you only get to that buzzsaw duo faster if you pitch around the Phillies unorthodox leadoff hitter. It may be the reason that he sees so many pitches like many leadoff batters do, but not many of those top of the lineup guys can launch a ball into the upper deck like Schwarber.
It’s so interesting to look at Schwarber’s 2024 slashline of .248/.366/.851 (which is still solid), but then see 38 home runs right alongside it from a leadoff batter. This was also a significant improvement from 2023 where his numbers looked a lot different (.197/.343/.817) with 47 home runs. Nothing has changed in Philadelphia roster-wise, so there’s no reason to believe Schwarber will see any regression in 2025.

Jose Altuve Most Hits In The League
2024 was definitely a breakout year for Bobby Witt Jr. as he led the league with 211 hits. But sitting quietly in 6th at 185 was Jose Altuve. Now there is a very valid reason for this pick to carry an 18.45x multiplier on it, and it is the fact that this is a season-long pick that means Altuve must stay healthy, and perform highly at the latter end of his career.
It was honestly last season that showed the Astros second baseman’s longevity to play 153 games of an 162-game season. He has surpassed the 200 hit marker four times in his career already, and may have to take on more of the load now that Bregman is no longer in the mix after his departure to Boston.
Altuve’s strikeouts were also down relative to 2022 and 2023, which bodes well for simply just putting the bat on the ball for notches in the hit column. Houston also signed marquee free agent Christian Walker in the offseason, who will certainly replace Bregman as someone to pitch around, leaving the door wide open for Altuve to give us that classic swing-out-of-his-shoes hack to perhaps be a dark horse in this category.
